Abstract: A food scale system and method are presented. The connected food scale system comprises a digital food scale and a plurality of mobile devices able to connect to the scale. A plurality of food logs within the scale are linked to a plurality of user identifiers. Each mobile device may contain one of the user identifiers to uniquely identify the mobile device to the scale. When a mobile device connects to the digital food scale, the scale receives the mobile device identifier and transfers food log data for the identified user to the mobile device. A physical dock for a mobile device is fixedly-attached to the food scale. A wide-angle lens is incorporated into the dock and allows a digital camera within the mobile device to capture an image of food on a weighing surface of the scale.

In one aspect, the invention is directed to determining and/or imaging light from two or more entities separated by a distance less than the diffraction limit of the incident light. In some cases, the position of the entities can be determined in all three spatial dimensions (i.e., in the x, y, and z directions), and in certain cases, the positions in all three dimensions can be determined to an accuracy of less than about 1000 nm. In some cases, the z positions may be determined using one of a variety of techniques that uses intensity information or focal information (e.g., a lack of focus) to determine the z position. Non-limiting examples of such techniques include astigmatism imaging, off-focus imaging, or multi-focal-plane imaging.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for conversion of signals from a first type of image sensor to a second type of camera control unit is presented. A first interface is provided for enabling electrical communication between the conversion module and an image sensor, the image sensor being interchangeable between a Complimentary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) and a Charge Coupled Device (CCD) image sensor. A second interface is provided for enabling electrical communication between the conversion module and a camera control unit (CCU). Also provided is conversion circuitry in communication with the first interface and the second interface, the conversion circuitry receiving signals of a first type from the first interface, converting the signals of a first type to signals of a second type and providing the signals of a second type to the second interface.

Abstract: An endoscope with a USB signal transmission includes an exploring tube, a lens, an image sensing element and a USB chip. The image sensing element has an output circuit for outputting a series signal. The USB chip is coupled to an image sensing element. The series-to-universal series unit converts the series signal into a universal series bus signal. The power supply circuit supplies electric power to the image sensing element. The data transmission circuit transmits a universal series bus signal. The USP chip integrates the output circuit into a power supply circuit and a data transmission circuit of a USB specification and converts the series signal into the universal series bus signal.

Abstract: A microscope system and method empirically determines the boundaries of the depth of field of an objective lens. The system and method are largely automated, with the manipulation of a specimen to be imaged being carried out by processors and associated equipment. Calculations of the empirical depth of field are also likewise automated. Upon empirically determining the boundaries of the depth of field, the specimen, particularly when transparent or translucent, can be accurately imaged at user-defined depths smaller than the depth of field.
