Patent number: 8669993Abstract: A user interface unit in a graphics processing display pipe may include registers programmable with information that defines active regions of an image frame. Pixels within the active regions of the image frame are meant to be displayed, while pixels outside of the active regions of the image frame are not to be displayed. Fetch circuitry within the user interface unit may fetch frames from memory, fetching only the pixels within the active regions of the image frames as defined by the programmed contents of the registers. The user interface unit may then provide the fetched pixels to a blend unit to blend the fetched pixels with pixels from other frames or pixels of a video stream to produce output frames. When blended with pixels of a video stream, the fetched pixels may be displayed as a graphics overlay on top of the video stream.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2010Date of Patent: March 11, 2014Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Joseph P. Patent number: 8669999Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention sets forth a technique for converting alpha values into pixel coverage masks. Geometric coverage is sampled at a number of “real” sample positions within each pixel. Color and depth values are computed for each of these real samples. Fragment alpha values are used to determine an alpha coverage mask for the real samples and additional “virtual” samples, in which the number of bits set in the mask bits is proportional to the alpha value. An alpha-to-coverage mode uses the virtual samples to increase the number of transparency levels for each pixel compared with using only real samples. The alpha-to-coverage mode may be used in conjunction with virtual coverage anti-aliasing to provide higher-quality transparency for rendering anti-aliased images.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 2010Date of Patent: March 11, 2014Assignee: NVIDIA CorporationInventors: Walter E. Patent number: 8670007Abstract: A control section divides a display screen into small regions, evaluates the relative brightness of each of the small regions in accordance with color data to be inputted as color data by which each pixel is displayed, and determines whether or not the display screen has a first small region that is brighter than the other small regions by a predetermined degree. Furthermore, the control section causes a first generating means to generate gradation data for use in the first small region, and causes a second generating means to generate gradation data for use in the other small regions. Even if the second generating section receives the same color data as the first generating section does, the second generating section limits the luminance of a W sub-pixel as compared to the first generating section. With this, the first small region can be displayed more strikingly brightly, so that a clearer, more realistic, and more appealing image can be displayed.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2010Date of Patent: March 11, 2014Assignee: Sharp Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Makoto Shiomi

Patent number: 8670034Abstract: An image processor outputs an image containing relatively much information of a central area in the horizontal direction. A mask composed of an upper mask and a lower mask is superimposed on the image. The upper mask is concave on the lower side thereof and disposed along the upper side of the image. The lower mask is concave on the upper side thereof and disposed along the lower side of the image. When the image is masked with this mask, the peripheral portion of the image that is prone to be distorted becomes invisible. Therefore, discomfort a user feels because of distortion can be reduced. In addition, the user can view the image with the much information of the central area of the image in the horizontal direction.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 2008Date of Patent: March 11, 2014Assignee: DENSO CORPORATIONInventors: Kazushige Hattori, Toshihiro Hattori, Bingchen Wang

Patent number: 8670035Abstract: An apparatus that provides an electronic image of areas around sides and rear of a large tractor trailer rig produced on a weatherproof screen that is located on the lower portion of the driver's side mirror. One (1) camera would be located on the rear of the trailer in a center mounted position, while another camera would be located on a passenger side near the front of the vehicle so that it can see the entire side of the vehicle. The cameras would be equipped with fixed wide-angle lenses. The video signal from each camera would be routed to an automatic switcher that displays each signal for a pre-determined time or allows for the manual selection of either camera on a permanent basis. The video signal is then displayed on the weatherproof monitor portion of the side view mirror. In such a manner the truck driver can look at the mirror and the monitor in order to see all three (3) sides of the vehicle at once.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2010Date of Patent: March 11, 2014Inventor: Marc Robert

Patent number: 8670036Abstract: An image-based vehicle maneuvering assistant method and system are provided in the present invention, in which images captured by a single image sensing device is processed to determine the changes with respect time by a controller having capability of image processing and identification and distance estimation in image space for providing a complete assisting image-information while the carrier is maneuvering. By means of the presented method of the presented invention, the system is capable of generating track of the carrier, view point transformation, and identifying the characteristic object in the image so as to performing the distance estimation. The present invention may be utilized and applied in different kinds of carrier type to solve the problem of guiding of carrier maneuvering, and assist the carrier lane changing, parking assistance and blind spot detection.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 2012Date of Patent: March 11, 2014Assignee: Industrial Technology Research InstituteInventors: Kuo-Hsiang Cheng, Yen-Shu Chang, Wei-Min Lee, Shan-Chuan Jeng, Long-Tai Chen

Patent number: 8670042Abstract: A blinking-signal device 1 includes a light receiving section 10, a row selecting section 20, a readout section 30, a detecting section 40, and a control section 50. By the row selecting section 20, charge generated in its photodiode of each pixel unit P2i-1,n of the (2i?1)-th row in the light receiving section 10 is accumulated in its charge accumulating section during a first period, and charge generated in its photodiode of each pixel unit P2i,n of the 2i-th row in the light receiving section 10 is accumulated in its charge accumulating section during a second period. With the detecting section 40, it is detected whether or not light reaching the pixel units P2i-1,n and P2i,n is a blinking signal on the basis of a difference between data D2i-1,n and D2i,n of the pixel units P2i-1,n and P2i output from the readout section 30.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 2010Date of Patent: March 11, 2014Assignee: Hamamatsu Photonics K.K.Inventors: Tasuku Joboji, Yukinobu Sugiyama
