Abstract: A sensor for detecting material degradation may include an optical fiber and a housing through which the optical fiber extends. An end cap may be affixed to an end of the housing. Light provided through the optical fiber may be reflected off of the end cap back through the optical fiber. The end cap may be made of a material of interest, and may be situated in an environment wherein the material of interest is present. A light source may provide input light through the optical fiber. A portion of the input light may be reflected off of the end cap. A light receptor may receive the reflected light via the optical fiber. A processing unit may be adapted to compare a measured intensity of the reflected light to a threshold, and to initiate an alarm condition if the measured intensity is below the threshold.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus includes a detector, and first to fourth generation units. The detector detects an instruction to magnify a portion of a reduced image obtained by reducing an original image, using the first generation unit. Upon detection of the instruction, the second generation unit generates a first magnified image by magnifying the reduced-image portion such that the degree of the magnification becomes smaller from the center of the magnification toward a surrounding area. The third generation unit specifies a portion of the original image corresponding to a first magnified image region having a perimeter from which a distance to the center of the magnification is predetermined, and generates a second magnified image by magnifying the specified original image portion. The fourth generation unit composes and then outputs an image by superimposing the second magnified image on the first magnified image at the center of the magnification.

Abstract: An image processing method includes an extraction step, a specifying step, and a data generating step. The extraction step extracts the positions of one or a plurality of objects and the position of a reference character indicating reference to each object, included in image data. Based on the extraction result of the extraction step, the specifying step specifies, among the objects, a specific object for which the corresponding reference character is to be printed on a side opposite to the object printed side when the image data is printed by both-side printing. The data generating step, based on the image data, generates edited image data in which the specific object is copied to a position that allows the specific object to be printed on a paper sheet different from that for the reference character corresponding to the specific object when the both-side printing is performed.

Abstract: Even in the case where input image data is binary data, dot arrangement appropriate for a printing apparatus is achieved to output a high quality image that suppresses an adverse influence such as density unevenness, stripes, or granular feeling. For this purpose, after the inputted binary data has been converted to multivalued data having lower resolution, a dot arrangement pattern that preliminarily specifies printing or non-printing for each of print pixels is set with being related to the multivalued data, and thereby new binary data is generated. At this time, the dot arrangement pattern is set to the dot arrangement appropriate for the printing apparatus, and therefore the high quality image that suppresses the adverse influence such as the density unevenness, stripes, or granular feeling can be outputted.

Abstract: An image information communication apparatus includes a communication unit, a permission unit, and a controller. The communication unit communicates image information with an external device in response to receiving a communication request. The permission unit permits the communication request on the basis of a result of comparison between a total band and an overall band. The total band is obtained by adding a communication band necessary for requested communication in the case where the communication unit receives the communication request and a band being used for other communications. The overall band is obtained by converting an image processing capability of the apparatus into a band. The controller controls the communication unit so as to communicate with the external device for the request permitted by the permission unit.

Abstract: An image reading apparatus includes: a reader configured to read an image to create image data representative of the image; a processor; and a memory storing instructions. According to the instructions, the processor receives first operational input for causing the reader to read the image and obtains a registration request transmitted from a first device that is one of at least one information processing device connected to the image reading apparatus through a network. The registration request is for registering the first device as a transmission destination to which the image data is to be transmitted. The processor registers the first device as the transmission destination, based on the obtained registration request. When the image data is created by the reader in response to receipt of the first operational input, the processor transmits the image data crated by the reader, to the registered first device.
