Abstract: A key depression (i.e., string striking) is performed while a pedal is kept at a set non-key-depressed-state corresponding position (a rest position of a hammer). A string striking velocity immediately before string striking and a string releasing velocity immediately after the string striking are detected, and a coefficient of rebound is calculated on the basis of the detected velocities and stored in association with the current value of the rest position of the hammer. Similar operations are repetitively performed with individual ones of different rest positions of the hammer, wherein each of the different rest positions of the hammer corresponding to each of a plurality of stroke positions within one stroke of the pedal. Thus, a distribution curve of the coefficients of rebound detected in association with the plurality of stroke positions is obtained and a half point of the pedal is identified based on the distribution curve.

Abstract: A pedal beating apparatus for musical instruments comprises a pedal beating holder, an elevation adjustment tray and a clamp beam. The elevation adjustment tray is movable against the pedal beating holder and has an elevation difference curved surface. The pedal beating holder has a fulcrum member. The clamp beam hinged on the fulcrum member has a clamp end and a leaning end at two ends. A compression spring is interposed between the clamp beam and pedal beating holder and located between the clamp end and fulcrum member to allow the leaning end to move downward to contact the elevation difference curved surface. By moving the elevation adjustment tray, position of the leaning end contacting the elevation difference curved surface is adjusted to further drive the clamp end to move. Thus distance between the clamp end and clamp boss can be changed to rapidly clamp drum hoops with varying thicknesses.

Abstract: Aspects of the invention provide a transport system powered by short block Linear Synchronous Motors (LSMs). The use of short blocks allows vehicles to move under precise control even when they are in close proximity to each other. The design allows the vehicles to be propelled and guided while negotiating sharp turns and negotiating merge and diverge switches. A coreless LSM can be used to create propulsive force without attractive force so as to allow a relatively high drag vehicle suspension, such as a vehicle sliding on a smooth surface.

Abstract: Devices for enabling navigation of a crawler vehicle along an airfoil-shaped body, such as a helicopter blade, in a low-cost fashion with high reliability, especially for swept configuration blades. Using the natural tendency of vacuum adherence devices to adhere to changing surface contours, the crawler vehicle can adhere itself to airfoil-shaped structures in a way that allows the crawler vehicle to easily translate along an airfoil-shaped body while accommodating extreme variations along the surface of the airfoil-shaped body. The crawler vehicle can be designed to eliminate any trailing edge follower wheel, which simplifies the crawler's ability to accommodate trailing edge protrusions, such as trim tabs.

Abstract: An ink formulation for marking living tissue comprises a dispersion of carbon black pigment particles encapsulated in water soluble shells, mixed with a pharmaceutically accepted carrier, such as water, and a preservative. A dispersion formulation is preferential to a suspension formulation for marking living tissue because the carbon particles of the dispersion formulation are less likely to aggregate and sediment over time. In addition, the absence of large quantities of additives makes a dispersion formulation less reactive to living tissue, further enhancing its appeal as a biological marker.

Abstract: A polyoxymethylene polymer is disclosed that contains long-chain alkyl end groups. The polyoxymethylene polymer may be formed by using a Bis-alkylformal as a chain transfer agent during production of the polymer. In one embodiment, the Bis-alkylformal is dissolved in a monomer, such as trioxane, during production of the polymer. In one embodiment, a branching agent may also be present with one or more monomers for producing a branched polyoxymethylene polymer. In this manner, greater amounts of alkyl end groups can be incorporated into the polymer. The resulting polymer has excellent flow characteristics. The polymer may be used to form various molded articles with excellent tribological properties.

Abstract: A polyoxymethylene polymer is disclosed that contains long-chain alkylene glycol end groups. The polyoxymethylene polymer may be formed by using a Bis-oligo-alkylene glycol-formal as a chain transfer agent during production of the polymer. The end groups on the polyoxymethylene polymer may comprise ethylene oxide end groups and/or propylene oxide end groups. The resulting polymer has excellent flow characteristics and may be used as a flow additive for other thermoplastic polymers.
