  • Patent number: 8792857
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed that notify end users of mobile devices of charging rate adjustments within a mobile network. A rate notification system receives bandwidth usage data for the mobile network, and identifies a region within the mobile network having a bandwidth usage that exceeds a threshold. The bandwidth usage is processed per media type (i.e., voice calls, text messages, etc) based on the bandwidth usage data. The rate notification system then identifies a mobile device located within the region, and identifies one or more contacts of the end user of the mobile device. The rate notification system then identifies an adjusted charging rate per contact per media type for this end user, and provides the adjusted charging rates to the end user of the mobile device.

  • Patent number: 8792877
Abstract: Techniques for extending transmission range in a WLAN are described. In an aspect, a receiving station determines the frequency error between a transmitting station and the receiving station based on one or more initial packet transmissions and corrects this frequency error for subsequent packet transmissions received from the transmitting station. The residual frequency error is small after correcting for the frequency error and allows the receiving station to perform coherent accumulation/integration over a longer time interval to detect for a packet transmission. The longer coherent accumulation interval improves detection performance, especially at low SNRs for extended transmission range. The techniques may be used whenever the receiving station knows the identity of the transmitting station, e.g., if the subsequent packet transmissions are scheduled. Other aspects, features, and embodiments are also claimed and described.

  • Patent number: 8792888
Abstract: A single chip mobile wireless device capable of receiving and transmitting over one wireless network at a time maintains registration on two wireless communication networks that each use different communication protocols in parallel. Periodically, the mobile wireless device tunes one or more receivers from a first wireless network to a second wireless network in order to listen for paging messages addressed to the mobile wireless device from the second wireless network. The first wireless network suspends allocation of radio resources to the mobile wireless device based on receipt of a suspension message from the mobile wireless device, or based on knowledge of a paging cycle for mobile wireless device in the second wireless network, or based on detection of an out of synchronization condition with the mobile wireless device.

  • Patent number: 8792889
Abstract: Techniques for performing inter-frequency handoff in a wireless communication network are described. An access terminal may acquire a first sector on a first frequency (e.g., at power up), receive an overhead message from the first sector, obtain neighbor list information from the overhead message, and store this information. The access terminal may be directed from the first frequency to a second frequency, e.g., to balance network load. The access terminal may perform handoff to a second sector on the second frequency. This handoff may be unsuccessful if the access terminal is within the coverage of the first sector but outside the coverage of the second sector, even though the two sectors may be co-located. If the handoff is unsuccessful, then the access terminal may determine a neighbor sector based on the stored neighbor list information, then attempt acquisition of the neighbor sector, and perform handoff to the neighbor sector if acquired.

Abstract: The disclosure provides a method and system for identifying a terminal. The method comprises that: a source eNB that has received an RRC reestablishment message determines, according to a PCI of a cell where an RLF occurs in the massage, all target eNBs to which RLF information needs to be sent, and sends the RLF information to each determined target eNB; after receiving the RLF information, the target eNB determines the cell where the RLF occurs under the target eNB according to the PCI of the cell where the RLF occurs, and determines in each determined cell whether a C-RNTI of the terminal in the cell where the RLF occurs belongs to C-RNTIs existing in the cell; if the C-RNTI belongs to the C-RNTIs existing in the cell, then the terminal is determined to be a terminal of the cell, otherwise the terminal is determined not to be a terminal of the cell. The disclosure enables the terminal to be identified accurately and uniquely.

Abstract: A handover control method is disclosed, including: obtaining an access mode and a closed subscriber group (CSG) identifier (ID) of a target area; deciding whether to allow an UE to be handed over to the target area according to the access mode and/or whether the CSG ID of the target area is included in the allowed CSG list of the UE. The handover control method can ensure the handover of the UE to the target area that the UE is allowed to access, therefore ensuring service continuity of the UE. A handover control apparatus and a handover control system are also disclosed.

Abstract: A technique for managing call-routing numbers in a mobile communication network using a distributed switching system is provided. The switching system embodies a cluster configuration, wherein at least one cluster of the switching system comprises a plurality of cluster members, each of which is capable of routing an incoming call based on a call-routing number temporarily associated with the call. A defined series of call-routing numbers is distributed between the plurality of cluster members. The management technique makes use of a common data structure which defines an amount of assignments equal to the length of a given series of call-routing numbers, wherein each assignment uniquely associates a cluster member with one or more least significant digits of the numbers of the number series.
