Abstract: This method allows for prediction of subsurface fluid properties (e.g., phase or API gravity) using gas chromatogram data of a small-volume extract. Small volume equates to microliter scale volume (or milligram scale weight) from a subsurface rock sample, where a fluid test may not be available for analysis. The method may also be applied to petroleum liquid samples where drilling fluid or other contaminants preclude accurate direct property measurement. Gas chromatographic data is calibrated to measured petroleum properties; preferably local oils from the same petroleum system, however, a general global calibration can also be used.

Abstract: An ultrasonic transducer has a transducer housing having an ultrasound window, a housing tube and a housing flange, a transducer holder for holding the transducer housing, a transducer element with an ultrasonic flow rate measuring transducer that is positioned at an end of the housing tube of the transducer, and an opposing flange clamping the housing flange of the transducer housing to a holder flange of the transducer holder together with retraining screws and lock nuts. A side of the housing flange of the transducer housing facing the opposing flange has an outer contour which enables bracing of the opposing flange against the housing flange without tilting or bending of the housing flange.

Abstract: The open channel flow meter of the present invention uses a progressive spectral analyzer to increase the efficiency and accuracy thereof. This is accomplished by using a smaller degree fast Fourier transform covering small sections of the span of the sensor. Additional sections of the span are added to the analysis as required to cover the desired velocity range. This approach also allows one to bypass the processing of velocity spans outside the actual site conditions. This allows circuitry which costs less, uses less power, and achieves more precise readings in a shorter time period.

Abstract: A meter tube assembly for use with an ultrasonic flow meter is provided. The meter tube assembly includes a pipe spool having an extremely rough first section including an interior surface with a relative roughness (?/D) of 1% or greater. Fluid passing through the extremely rough section exhibits a flow profile that remains substantially constant over the range of Reynolds numbers. As such, ultrasonic flow meters can be simplified as they need not account for different Reynolds numbers.

Abstract: There is provided a sample inspection automation system which uses a single holder as its carrier, which can supply empty holders to a distant processing unit on an extended circling path without delay, and which permits continuous operation in case of a failure through detachment of a failed part for example. The system combining a plurality of processing units has an empty holder circling path with a mechanism to circle empty holders across all processing units within the system in unicursal fashion; stoppers for retaining empty holders on the circling path; and a mechanism for controlling the stoppers on the circling path given an empty holder request from a processing unit. The empty holder circling path is made of a plurality of loops each equipped with the stopper. The sample inspection automation system thus configured supplies empty holders efficiently and simplifies system operation through fallback operation.
