Abstract: Disclosed herein are apparatuses for supporting a person in an upright position while sleeping or resting in a bed such that the person can avoid sliding down into a horizontal position as a result of natural forces of gravity and normal movement during sleep. According to an aspect, an apparatus includes a harness configured to hold a person, an anchor to secure the harness to a bed, and a tether having one end connected to the harness and another end connected to the anchor. The anchor can include a support member and an insert extending from the support member such that the upper surface of the insert comes into contact with a mattress and the lower surface of the insert comes into contact with a bed-base. The insert can be positioned underneath the mattress and on top of the bed-base.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a disposable absorbent pad comprising multiple layers. In particular, the absorbent pad of the present invention maintains skin dryness by absorbing moisture while preventing leakage to the skin or the bed linens, allowing air circulation at the surface of the patient's skin to prevent heat buildup, and is strong enough to allow the patient to be repositioned, even when the pad is wet. In a particular embodiment the first layer is comprised of a fluid-permeable, porous material, the second layer is disposed under the first layer and is comprised of at least one super absorbent material, and a base layer disposed under the second layer.

Abstract: A semi-absorbent, semi-resistant, breathable fabric includes a single-layer having a first, hydrophilic side that absorbs water, and a second, hydrophobic side; wherein the first, hydrophilic side of the single-layer fabric quickly spreads out a liquid that is absorbed laterally to a wider area such that the absorbed liquid does not seep or pass through to the second, hydrophobic side of the single-layer fabric under gravitational force. A method of making a semi-absorbent, semi-resistant, breathable fabric includes: subjecting a first side of a single-layer fabric to a hydrophilic amino functional polysiloxane softener; treating a second opposite side of the fabric with a fluorocarbon compound under low pressure such that the fluorocarbon compound penetrates no more than half of the fabric thickness; and drying and curing the fabric, preferably at a temperature of about 145° C. to 155° C. for about three minutes to about five minutes.

Abstract: A hydraulic hinge for a glass door has a fixing plate, a rotating seat, a pivot and a buffer module. The rotating seat is combined with the fixing plate and has a first oil passage and a second oil passage. The pivot is combined with the fixing plate and the rotating seat. The buffer module is mounted in the rotating seat and has a valve having a circular groove selectively communicating with the second oil passage. A glass door can be pivoted relative to the rotating seat. The valve is structurally simple, thereby simplifying the manufacturing process. With the valve and the second oil passage, the velocity of closing the glass door gradually increases from low speed to high speed.

Abstract: A planetary type dual-shaft hinge includes a female shaft member, a male shaft set rotatably inserted through the female shaft member, and a transmission mechanism including a first transmission member and a second transmission member respectively affixed to the first shaft and the second shaft, and a link coupled between the first transmission member and the second transmission member. The two pivoting points between the link and the first and second transmission members are respectively deviated from the two connection points between the first and second transmission member and the first and second shaft, so that when the hinge is used in a flip-up electronic apparatus and the cover member of the electronic apparatus is opened from the base member thereof, the first shank can be turned about the second shaft, smoothening the relative movement between the cover member and the base member.
