  • Patent number: 8964956
Abstract: A method and system for integrating compliance and contact management between an origin and destination. An integrated control system can receive or initiate a request for a first communication contact type (e.g. phone call) between an origin and destination, the request including a first destination identifier (e.g. phone number). Depending on applicable mediation rules and lists of prohibited and exempted destination identifiers for the first communication contact type, the connection is either prohibited or allowed. If the first communication contact type is prohibited, a request for an alternate communication type (e-mail, mail, or facsimile) is sent to the same destination based on alternate destination identifiers. The integrated control system will either prohibit or allow the requested alternate communication contact based on one or more applicable mediation rules and lists of prohibited and exempted destination identifiers for each alternate communication contact type.

  • Patent number: 8964960
Abstract: A system plays audio prompts to a user as part of a voice application. If the user begins to provide input in response to the audio prompt before the audio prompt is finished playing, the volume of the audio prompt is reduced, but the audio prompt continues to play. If the user finishes providing his input and the system is able to interpret the input before the audio prompt finishes, the audio prompt will halt and the system will take further action in accordance with the user's input. If the user finishes providing his input while the audio prompt is still playing, and the system is unable to interpret the input, the volume of the audio prompt will increase back to the original volume level until either the audio prompt finishes playing, or the user again begins to provide input.

The system includes a network address reference detection agent that detects a network address reference resulting from user interaction with a network addressable device. Network address references include e-mail addresses, SMS addresses, and telephone numbers. After the network address reference detection agent detects an event, a user identity data store is accessed. The user identity data store provides a reverse-lookup of one or more profile elements based upon the network address reference detected by the network address reference detection agent. The system also includes a capture agent for evaluating a business rule based at least on the network address reference. If the business rule is satisfied, the capture agent provides a prompt as to whether the one or more profile elements should be added at least in part to the network accessible address book for the user.

  • Patent number: 8964966
Abstract: One exemplary problem addressed by the techniques disclosed herein is that the A-to-D converter of the broad-band audio codec that is being used more frequently in IP telephony, G.722, samples the analog audio source 16,000 times per second, rather than 8,000. Since all G.722-capable telephones must continue to be G.711-capable, one problem is that a microphone that provides appropriate bandpass filtering for G.722 encoding fails to provide adequate filtering for G.711. One exemplary aspect is therefore directed to telephones that must be able to switch back and forth between narrow-band digital audio encoding in which the A-to-D converter samples the audio stream 8,000 times per second, and a wide-band audio encoding in which the A-to-D converter samples the audio stream 16,000 times per second. This is accomplished using one or more of a plurality of switched microphones, a filter and a modification of the resonant frequencies of a handset.

  • Patent number: 8964967
Abstract: A method and system for improving a perceived duplexity of handsfree telephone applications is disclosed. An echo suppression circuit for a device comprising loudspeaker and microphone is described. A circuit attenuates a subband of a transmit signal, wherein the transmit signal is captured by the microphone and wherein the transmit signal comprises an echo of a far-end signal rendered by the loudspeaker and a near-end signal. The attenuation circuit further determines a subband far-end indicator of a voice activity in the far-end signal; determines a subband near-end indicator of a voice activity of the near-end signal; determines a subband masking weight; determines a subband attenuation for the transmit signal in the subband; and attenuates the subband of the transmit signal using the determined subband attenuation.

  • Patent number: 8964969
Abstract: Embodiments relate to a filtering device that filters a telecommunications signal and outputs to a telephone and a data port depending on whether a data plug has been inserted into the data port. A micro switch at the data port is activated and brings filtering components in-line when a data plug is inserted, and the filtering components filter the combined telecommunications signal and outputs filtered telephony only signals to the telephone port, and data only signals to the data port. When no data plug is present in the data port, the micro switch is not activated, and the filter is bypassed, thereby presenting unfiltered telephone and data signals to the telephone port as well as any extension sockets connected thereto, but no signals to the data port.

  • Patent number: 8964989
Abstract: An improved quantum key distribution (QKD) system and method are provided. The system and method introduce new clients at intermediate points along a quantum channel, where any two clients can establish a secret key without the need for a secret meeting between the clients. The new clients perform operations on photons as they pass through nodes in the quantum channel, and participate in a non-secret protocol that is amended to include the new clients. The system and method significantly increase the number of clients that can be supported by a conventional QKD system, with only a modest increase in cost. The system and method are compatible with a variety of QKD schemes, including polarization, time-bin, continuous variable and entanglement QKD.

The process applies new azimuth-based equalization and phase measurements specifically derived for stereo playback while faithfully interfacing with and eliciting human psychoacoustic localization responses via the Fletcher-Munson loudness effect. The process accurately recovers and reproduces three-dimensional sonic image locations inherently encoded in standard recordings so that a listener may accurately perceive the three-dimensional sound. Sound images are reproduced in at least the forward 180° free-field environment of the listener. The apparatus is designed to allow reproduction of atypical recordings made with closely-spaced microphones if desired.

Abstract: An acoustic monitoring system includes a portable acoustic detection device, a sound analysis device and a confidence level device. The portable acoustic detection device is capable of receiving sound at one or more locations near a sound-producing device. The sound analysis device receives the sound from the portable sound detection device, determines a diagnosis based on a comparison between the sound and pre-recorded sound data, and outputs the diagnosis to the portable acoustic detection device. The sound analysis device also determines a corrective action for inhibiting the sound, which is also output to the portable sound detection device. The confidence level device determines a confidence level of the diagnosis indicating a likelihood that the diagnosis is successfully diagnosed.

Abstract: An arrangement and method for assessing the audibility and annoyance of at least one distortion component dn(t) with n=1, . . . , N in the output signal p(t) of a device under test, by generating a virtual auralization output signal pA(t) at the output of an auralization system. The output signal pA(t) contains the distortion component dn(t) at an adjustable magnitude according to a scaling factor Sn provided from a control input, and is supplied to a perceptive model and to a reproduction system used by a listener. The auralization system receives the distortion component dn(t) from a separator which receives a test signal xT(t) from the output of a microphone and a reference signal xR(t) from a reference system.

  • Patent number: 8964998
Abstract: The present invention features systems for dynamically adjusting audio signals by applying a gain to the signal in a spectrally varying manner to compensate for ambient noise, such that the sound is perceived to be unchanged in volume and spectral composition by the listener. The system obtains a threshold elevation for each frequency component by analyzing the spectral composition of the ambient noise. This threshold elevation is then used by a psychoacoustic model of hearing to determine an appropriate gain adjustment for the corresponding frequency component of the source signal which will make that source signal perceived by the human ear to be just as loud as if the noise were not present.
