  • Patent number: 9008627
Abstract: Information that is no longer valid due to the passage of time is not provided to a user. When a stock price information server acquires updated stock price information from a securities market network, a message that instructs that a predetermined application be started up and to which a term of validity has been attached is sent to a user terminal over a paging channel via an SMS server. When the user terminal receives the message, it determines whether or not the message is within the term of validity, and if it determines that the message is within the term of validity, starts up the instructed application from among a plurality of applications that are stored. The stock price information server then sends to the user terminal the stock price information that is requested by the started up application.

  • Patent number: 9008634
Abstract: A system and method using events to traverse a content selection path for the purpose of providing media content selections are provided. In general, events are defined based on one or more stimulus such as, but not limited to, a chronological-based stimulus, a location-based stimulus, a user-based stimulus, a third-party stimulus, or a weather-based stimulus. Each of the events is used to trigger one or more associated content selection paths. A content selection path generally defines a set of media content and a manner of stepping through the defined set of media content. In operation, when an event is detected, the associated content selection path is triggered to step to the next step in the content selection path, thereby identifying the media content selections. Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate notifying and detecting modification of system information in a wireless communication system. A mobile device may receive a first system information block (SIB) in a first time period, obtain from the first SIB at least one parameter related to modification of at least one SIB, and determine whether to receive the at least one SIB based on the at least one parameter obtained from the first SIB. The mobile device may receive a paging message in a second time period and may determine whether to receive one or more SIBs based on information obtained from the paging message. The mobile device may receive the first SIB in the first time period after entering a cell in an idle mode. The mobile device may receive the paging message in the second time period after accessing the cell.

  • Patent number: 9008657
Abstract: A user's context is determined based on the wireless network to which the user is connected. Targeted information, based on the determined context, is then delivered to the user. A centralized mechanism associates identifiers of wireless access points to one or more providers, such as retail establishments, that have set up those access points and have been registered by the centralized mechanism. The providers also provide targeted information that they wish to have delivered to users whose context indicates that they are in or near that provider's store. The centralized mechanism further has information associating the wireless computing device with contact information that can be utilized to deliver targeted information. The targeted information can be delivered to the user via the wireless network, a cellular network or through other communicational mechanisms. The provider, or retail establishment, can also be informed of the presence of the user near its premises.

  • Patent number: 9008658
Abstract: A method for obtaining physiological data from a medical sensor device includes detecting a proximity of the medical sensor device by an electronic computing device. After the proximity is detected, a message is received from the medical sensor device. A determination is made as to whether the received message includes configuration information for a wireless communication link. When the received message includes the configuration information for the wireless communication link, the wireless communication link is used to receive physiological data from the medical sensor device and the received physiological data is processed at the electronic computing device. When the received message does not include configuration information for the wireless communication link, a determination is made as to whether the received message includes physiological data. When the received message includes the physiological data, the physiological data is processed at the electronic computing device.

Abstract: An architecture that can redirect communications upon detection of a handover failure in a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network is described. The architecture can obtain information indicative of a handover failure that is available in a first portion of the LTE network (e.g., a serving gateway) that has no control over the communication path. The architecture can utilize the information to instruct a second portion of the LTE network (e.g., a mobility management entity), one that can control the communication path but conventionally has no access to the handover information, to reroute the communication path to avoid unresponsive or failing network entities.

  • Patent number: 9008666
Abstract: A wireless communication device exchanges data with a source base station. Based on location, velocity, and direction of the wireless communication device, an off-network transit between a source base station and a target base station is identified. The wireless communication device transfers an off-network transit request to the source base station, indicating the target base station and a time. The wireless communication device receives an off-network transit response from the source base station, indicating the target base station, a target frequency, and authorization data. The wireless communication device enters a dormant mode until the time. When the time is reached, the wireless communication device transfers authorization data to the target base station and exchanges second data with the target base station.
