Abstract: A method for reducing or stopping flow through a tubular structure of a patient can include positioning an elongate member within a lumen of the tubular structure. The elongate member can be arranged to form a frame having a distal opening and a proximal opening. The elongate member can substantially reduce or totally obstruct, with a flow reducing member coupled to the frame, flow of at least one of emboli and fluid flowing through the lumen. The flow reducing member can comprise a one-way valve that moves in response to fluid flow to substantially prevent distal flow through the distal opening and to allow proximal flow through the distal opening.

Abstract: In some embodiments, a medical device for recanalizing a vessel having a blockage and restoring blood flow through an obstructed blood vessel includes an expandable member coupled to a core wire and a hypotube that are movable relative to each other to manipulate the expandable member between various configurations. The expandable member having a capture structure in an expanded configuration. The expandable member can include multiple interstices formed by woven mesh filaments or braided strands through which the material blocking the vessel can pass. The capture structure can include a shape on its external surface that facilitates dislodgement and capture of the material within capture spaces created by the expandable member. Some embodiments include a capture sack or cap for capturing material and preventing material from migrating down stream of the blockage. Superoxygenated blood can be infused distal to the blockage to minimize loss of function during an ischemic event.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and apparatus for implementing a method for identifying tube parameters of a curved tube of an active cannula for operating on a target in a patient. The method includes the step (a) of acquiring a model of the patient anatomy including the target. The method also includes the step (b) of selecting a set of parameters characterizing a curved tube. The method also includes the step (c) of computing a workspace for an active cannula having the selected curved tube parameters. The method also includes the step (d) of comparing the workspace to the anatomical model to determine the degree to which an active cannula having the selected curved tube parameters covers the target. The method also includes the step (e) of repeating steps (b) through (d) through a defined number of curved tube parameter sets. The method also includes the step (f) of identifying the curved tube parameters that provide an active cannula with an optimal degree of target coverage.
