Abstract: A process is disclosed for utilizing dual use packaging, particularly ornamental packaging containing a pet-related product as would be used with an aquarium. The ornamental container is filled with a pet-related product such as fish food. The fish food is selectively dispensed from the container until depleted. The container is then utilized as a decorative ornament in an aquarium. Ballast may be added to the ornamental container before being submerged in the aquarium. The ornamental container may resemble a lighthouse, a treasure chest, a rock sculpture, a wall block, a submarine, or a vase.

  • Publication number: 20150230438
Abstract: Disclosed is an aquaponics system with minimal outflows of waste. A stream of waste water from aquatic animals is mineralized in a waste conversion unit having algae and bacteria located on multiple horizontal plates through which the stream of waste water flows. The stream of waste leaving the waste conversion unit passes through troughs upon which plants are hydroponically grown by absorbing the mineralized waste. The water leaving the troughs is returned to the tank holding the aquatic animals and the cycle is repeated. The system may be augmented with an air source, a light source, and a nutrient source in the waste conversion unit to further enhance the breakdown of the animal waste. Additionally, floating trays may be utilized in the troughs to support a wide range of plants hydroponically grown in the troughs.

Abstract: Aquaponics machines, systems, methods, components, apparatus etc. Some such systems comprise solids/water separators, fish rearing tanks, and surface drains. The surface drains are in fluid communication with the separators and are positioned in the fish rearing tanks so as to drain solids/water mixtures from the surfaces of the water therein. Moreover, they are positioned to drain the solids/water mixtures to the separators whereby the separators separate fecal matter from the water. In some embodiments, thin film strippers are in the separators. Pumps in some systems can be further configured to pump water at a rate sufficient to create a vortex at the thin film strippers. If desired, the surface drains can be positioned near a downwind side of the fish rearing tanks. Furthermore, air stones spaced apart from the surface drains can over-aerate the water. Some systems further comprise plant growing tanks and/or polyethylene grow rafts positioned therein.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a composition containing a novel strain Streptomyces scopuliridis KR-001 strain or a culture broth thereof as an active ingredient for weed control. More particularly, the Streptomyces scopuliridis KR-001 strain of the present invention, culture broth thereof, or culture fraction shows an excellent weed-killing ability on grass weeds, broadleaf weeds, and hard-to-control weeds, and a medium composition containing a carbon source and a nitrogen source in an optimal condition may significantly increase yield of an active material produced by the strain with low cost. Therefore, the strain can be usefully employed to a herbicide composition for weed control and a method for weed control.
