Abstract: An ophthalmologic imaging apparatus includes: a first optical system that applies an accommodation stimulus to a subject's eye; a tomographic image forming unit that includes a second optical system that splits light from a light source into signal light and reference light, and detects interference light between the signal light having travelled via the subject's eye and the reference light, and creates a tomographic image of the subject's eye based on a detection result of the interference light; and an analyzer that compares a first tomographic image with a second tomographic image to acquire change information indicating a change in a tissue of the subject's eye due to an accommodation stimulus change. The first and second tomographic images are respectively created by the tomographic image forming unit for the subject's eye, to which first and second accommodation stimuli are respectively applied by the first and second optical systems.

Abstract: The present invention provides an electrochemical sensor that employs multiple electrode areas that are exposed for contact with a body fluid, e.g., when the sensor is inserted subcutaneously into a patient's skin. The exposed electrode areas are arranged symmetrically, such that a symmetrical potential distribution is produced when an AC signal is applied to the sensor. The sensors in accordance with these teachings can advantageously be used with AC signals to determine characteristics of the sensor and thus improve sensor performance. These teachings also provide a biocompatible sensor with multiple reference electrode areas that are exposed for contact with body fluid.

Abstract: Specially designed collection strips and their processing. By using specially designed collection strips, having a backer and one or more absorbent pads, in conjunction with a unique processing method, the processes of analyzing biological samples such as blood, or the like, may be done efficiency with the elimination of cross contamination risk. Identification of the sample stays with the sample throughout the process as it resides on the collection strip. The strip absorbs a known volume. The sample with identification is placed directly in an elution solution, without mechanically separating the sample from its identification information. Elimination of the need for mechanical separation tends to reduce cross contamination, as well as reducing sample processing time.

Abstract: In some embodiments, the present invention generally relates to the separation of blood within a device to form plasma or serum. In some embodiments, the present invention generally relates to the removal of fluids, such as blood, contained within a device. In one aspect, the present invention is generally directed to systems and methods for receiving blood from a subject and processing the blood to form plasma or serum. For example, a device may be applied to the skin of a subject to receive blood from the subject and pass the blood through a separation membrane, which separates the blood into plasma and a portion concentrated in blood cells. As another example, blood or plasma may be allowed to clot within the device and serum (the unclotted portion of the blood) may be withdrawn from the device. The device may contain, in some cases, a vacuum source such as a pre-packaged vacuum to facilitate receiving of blood and/or passage of the blood through the separation membrane to produce plasma or serum.

Abstract: In conjunction with the so-called “wagon wheel effect”, based on the Shannon-Nyquist signal processing theory, which our apparatus produces and measures under specific conditions, observed with one (left, right) or two eyes, when a disk reaches a speed , at which normal brain processes perceive as a rotation speed inversion, we create complex sounds or sound variations, which can be heard from one (left, right) or two ears, which we use to test in various scenarios individual's responses (potentially illustrating aspects of brain lateralization function) to support the establishment of a normative theory and measure specific populations (aging population, individuals suffering from mental illness such as Alzheimer, possibly in their early stage of development) against this norm.
