Abstract: The invention provides a method of redistributing magnetically responsive beads in a droplet. The method may include conducting on a droplet operations surface one or more droplet operations using the droplet without removing the magnetically responsive beads from the region of the magnetic field. The droplet operations may in some cases be electrode-mediated. The droplet operations may redistribute and/or circulate the magnetically responsive beads within the droplet. In some cases, the droplet may include a sample droplet may include a target analyte. The redistributing of the magnetically responsive beads may cause target analyte to bind to the magnetically responsive beads. In some cases, the droplet may include unbound substances in a wash buffer. The redistributing of the magnetically responsive beads causes unbound substances to be freed from interstices of an aggregated set or subset of the magnetically responsive beads.

Abstract: There is provided a manufacturing method of martensite-based stainless steel for edged tools, which can decrease the number of passes during final cold rolling thereby to improve productivity. In the manufacturing method of martensite-based stainless steel for edged tools having a thickness of 0.1 mm or less by cold rolling, the final cold rolling is performed under condition of a diameter of a work roll of 100 to 130 mm, a cold rolling speed of more than 120 and not more than 200 m/min, and a lubricating oil viscosity of 30 to 40 mm2/s. Preferably, the cold rolling speed is 150 to 190 m/min, and the lubricating oil viscosity is 33 to 39 mm2/s.

Abstract: A method for tuning flatness control for rolling a strip in a mill including rolls controllable by means of a plurality of actuators, which mill is modeled by means of a mill matrix. The method includes: a) obtaining an equivalent movement range for each actuator, b) determining a scaled mill matrix by scaling the mill matrix based on the equivalent movement ranges, and c) obtaining a singular value decomposition of the scaled mill matrix for providing flatness control of the strip by means of the actuators. A computer program and a control system for carrying out the above method are also presented herein.

Abstract: A flat rolled article (2) passes through a cooling device (1) in a transportation direction (x) at the level of a passline (3). Spray bars (5, 6) extend transversely with respect to the transportation direction (x). The spray bars (5, 6) have, as viewed perpendicular to the transportation direction (x), in each case two outer regions (7, 8) and a central region (9) in between. A liquid cooling medium (13) can be fed into the regions (7, 8, 9) via respective dedicated, individually controllable valve devices (10, 11, 12). Flow rate profiles, pertaining to each region may be set, wherein each region (7, 8, 9) is triangular in shape. The central triangle and the two outer triangles combine to form a rectangle.

Abstract: The embodiments herein provide a hydrostatic backward extrusion system that utilizes hydrostatic pressure to produce products with desired cross sectional profile based on backward extrusion process. The system comprises a container, a plunger, fixed-punch, and a billet chamber. The billet material is placed inside the billet chamber. The empty space between the billet chamber and the billet material is filled with a high pressure fluid. Sealing is done at appropriate places to prevent leakage of fluid during the extrusion process. The plunger is moved down to create pressure on the fluid. Due to hydrostatic pressure, the billet material flows into the annular space between the container and the fix-punch. The design of head profile, inner and outer radius of fix-punch allows the billet material to flow smoothly into the annular and forms an extruded product.
