  • Patent number: 9278389
Abstract: A method for making an equiaxed investment casting. The method utilizes an ultrasonic generator to send an ultrasonic pulse into molten metal in an investment casting mold. The investment casting mold is positioned within a working zone of furnace having low output induction coils for generating a convection current in molten metal. The ultrasonic pulse separates dendrites growing from the face of the mold inward into the molten metal. Instead, equiaxed grains can nucleate within the molten metal. In addition, the ultrasonic pulse and the low output induction coils circulate the molten metal as solute is rejected from solidifying equiaxed grains. The mixing reduces the effects of segregation in the solidifying alloy and assists in nucleating equiaxed grains.

  • Patent number: 9278418
Abstract: A device for supplying a liquid cooling lubricant to a cutting edge of a lathe tool is operatively connected with a fast-tool servo by way of a tool holder in order to be able to execute oscillating movements in an advance direction in common with the tool holder. A first connection is stationary with respect to a housing of the fast-tool servo, for a cooling lubricant source and an outlet, which is in fluid connection with the first connection, for delivery of a cooling lubricant jet to the lathe tool. The outlet is provided at the tool holder and is in fluid connection with the first connection by way of a hose portion so that the cooling lubricant jet delivered via the outlet always impinges at a predetermined point on the cutting edge of the lathe tool even when stroke movements of the tool holder take place.

  • Patent number: 9278419
Abstract: A shape measurement data is acquired by measuring along a spiral measurement path a lens shape which is machined along a spiral machining path. An interpolated shape measurement data at intersecting points of a radial line passing through a center of the lens shape and the spiral measurement path is acquired by interpolating the shape measurement data, and a compensated machining amount for removing a machining error at each of the intersecting points (the machining points) is calculated from the interpolated shape measurement data by interpolation. Further, a machining point compensated machining amount at each of the machining points on the spiral machining path is calculated from the calculated compensated machining amount, and a compensated machining path is created on the basis of the machining point compensated machining amount.

  • Patent number: 9278421
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for centering grinding of workpieces, for example optical lenses by a grinding tool using an actuator for generating an advancing movement between the grinding tool and the workpiece, wherein the actuator and a current regulator for an actuator current which determines an advancing force of the actuator are integrated in a position control loop using a predetermined control cycle. For each control cycle: (i) a desired direction of movement (Rsoll(n)) of the advancing movement and an actual direction of movement (Rist(n)) of the advancing movement are ascertained; then (ii) the ascertained actual and desired directions of movement are compared to one another; and (iii) when the comparison results in a deviation between the actual and desired directions of movement, a predetermined current limit (Isollmax) for the actuator current emitted via the current regulator is decreased in a defined manner.

  • Patent number: 9278422
Abstract: A system for dressing centrifugal clutches has a drum tool with an internal abrasive surface, and a flap tool with abrasive flaps. The drum tool can replace the clutch drum on the clutch driven shaft to dress the clutch shoes, or the flap tool can replace the clutch shoes and mechanism on the clutch drive shaft, which may be the engine crankshaft, to dress the clutch drum. In either case, the tool being used and the component being dressed can accurately simulate the engagement of the clutch shoes and clutch drum in operation, so that the clutch drum and shoes can be accurately dressed to the correct shape, matching each other, for use.

  • Patent number: 9278424
Abstract: The present application relates to polishing pads for chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) of substrates, and methods of fabrication and use thereof. The pads described in this invention are customized to polishing specifications where specifications include (but not limited to) to the material being polished, chip design and architecture, chip density and pattern density, equipment platform and type of slurry used. These pads can be designed with a specialized polymeric nano-structure with a long or short range order which allows for molecular level tuning achieving superior themo-mechanical characteristics. More particularly, the pads can be designed and fabricated so that there is both uniform and nonuniform spatial distribution of chemical and physical properties within the pads.
