  • Patent number: 9280240
Abstract: A processing system includes a transmitter module, a receiver module, and a determination module. The transmitter module is configured to drive a first contact, a second contact, and a third contact of a first transmitter electrode, wherein the first contact is disposed between the second contact and the third contact. This produces a first voltage gradient between the first contact and the second contact, and produces a second voltage gradient between the first contact and the third contact. The receiver module receives, with a first receiver electrode, a first resulting signal including effects of the first voltage gradient, and to receive, with a second receiver electrode, a second resulting signal comprising effects of the second voltage gradient. The determination module determines positional information for an input object located within a sensing region based on the first resulting signal and the second resulting signal.

  • Patent number: 9280243
Abstract: In a sensing method using self-capacitance and mutual-capacitance alternatively to reduce touch noises, a control device configures a first driving and sensing device and a second driving and sensing device to perform an initialization. The control device configures the first and second driving and sensing devices to perform at least one self-capacitance sensing for producing a first possible touch point range during a first work mode. Then, the control device configures the first and second driving and sensing devices to perform at least one mutual-capacitance sensing for producing a second possible touch point range during a second work mode. The control device determines if there is range conjunction between the first and second possible touch point ranges. The control device produces a possible touch point range conjunction and calculates coordinates of touch points based on the possible touch point range conjunction.

  • Patent number: 9280278
Abstract: According to an aspect, a portable electronic apparatus includes a display unit for displaying an image; an input detection unit for detecting contact with an area in which the image is displayed by the display unit as input; and a control unit for causing the display unit to display a plurality of item objects and a group object surrounding the item objects. If the input detection unit detects first input of coming into contact with two different points in an area in which the group object is displayed and moving the contact with at least one of the two different points in a direction away from the other while maintaining the contact, the control unit causes the display unit to display the item objects in an aligned manner in a direction in which the distance between the two points increases.

Abstract: A method is provided for presenting information on a display to a user when the display is operating, at least in part, in a locked or low-power mode. In particular, an example method may include providing for operation of a device in an unrestricted mode, and receiving an indication that an area presented on a display of the device is a designated area, where another area of the display that is not the designated area is an undesignated area. The designated area may include designated information while the undesignated area may include undesignated information. The method may further include providing for operation of the device in a restricted mode, where the designated information is presented in the restricted mode and the undesignated information is not presented in the restricted mode.

  • Patent number: 9280281
Abstract: A mechanism for allowing a user to prove their identity on touch-based devices employing the use of a touch surface in firmware-controlled environments is discussed. The user may prove his or her identity by entering a series of strokes on the touch-based device to form a word or image. Characteristics of the entered strokes such as stroke order and stroke direction are compared to stored stroke characteristics that were gathered from a drawing of the same word or image during a user enrollment process. If the stroke characteristics comparison is acceptable, the user identity is verified.

Abstract: A touch unlocking method includes obtaining position information of a plurality of touch points on a device screen in response to sliding of a touch medium on the device screen. A value that reflects a change of a distance between touch points of the plurality of touch points is monitored when the plurality of touch points are located in plurality of touch areas on the device screen respectively. The unlocking control on the device screen is performed according to a result of a comparison between the value that reflects the change of the distance between the touch points and a distance change threshold.

  • Patent number: 9280283
Abstract: Methods, devices and sensors for detecting a gesture are described. In an embodiment, a gesture sensor includes a time of flight sensor having a sensing element configured to generate an electrical signal responsive to received light. The time of flight sensor also includes a light source for emitting a burst of light. The sensing element has a sensing side for receiving light and a non-sensing side which is opposite the sensing side. The gesture sensor also includes one or more light inhibitors positioned relatively nearer the sensing side of the sensing element than the non-sensing side. The light inhibitors are asymmetric about a first center line of the sensing element. The first center line is located midway between first and second sides of the sensing element. The gesture sensor further includes a processor coupled to the time of flight sensor configured to detect a gesture.

  • Patent number: 9280284
Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer readable medium for polygon gesture detection and interaction, adapted to an electronic apparatus having an input unit, are provided. In the method, a gesture moving from a starting point to an end point is received by using the input unit and sampling points thereof are collected. A trajectory of the sampling points is analyzed to obtain a center of the gesture. A surrounding area of the center is divided into equal label areas. A distance and an angle relative to an origin of each sampling point in the label areas are calculated and used as a vertical axis and a horizontal axis to draw a waveform diagram. A shape formed by the trajectory is determined according to characteristics of the waveform diagram and a specific function corresponding to the shape is performed.

  • Patent number: 9280288
Abstract: The technique introduced here involves using a block address and a corresponding generation number as a “fingerprint” to uniquely identify a sequence of data within a given storage domain. Each block address has an associated generation number which indicates the number of times that data at that block address has been modified. This technique can be employed, for example, to determine whether a given storage server already has the data, and to avoid sending the data to that storage server over a network if it already has the data. It can also be employed to maintain cache coherency among multiple storage nodes.

  • Patent number: 9280289
Abstract: One or more techniques and/or systems are provided for detecting misalignment between a virtual data format and an underlying data format. A virtual data object, such as a virtual machine, may be stored within a storage device using an underlying data format. The virtual data object may comprise one or more virtual data structures, such as a virtual partition. The virtual partition may be stored within the virtual data object according to a virtual data format. The virtual data format may be compared with the underlying data format to determine whether the virtual data structure is misaligned within the storage device. Such misalignment may lead to virtual data blocks of the virtual data structure overlapping underlying data blocks, which may degrade (e.g., I/O) performance. Accordingly, one or more misaligned virtual data structures may be realigned within the storage device to address misalignment and/or improve performance.
