  • Patent number: 9298030
Abstract: Security of communications between users involving mobile devices has to date focused to ensuring message integrity, preventing attacks as well as verification/authentication of the user to access the message. At the same time manufacturers of LCD displays for use within electronic devices, particularly mobile devices have focused to extending the viewing angle of these displays, their brightness and contrast. As a result content that has been securely encrypted, delivered, and decrypted is visible to malevolent individuals or organizations around the user when accessing this content. As such secure information, credentials, etc may be divulged without the user being aware. Accordingly the invention acts to limit the external viewing angle of LCD displays allowing reduced breaches of confidential information. Embodiments of the invention can be integrated with the LCD displays during manufacturing, added to the mobile device in assembly or form part of an after-sales option.

Abstract: The present invention provides a transflective display device which is high in transmittance, can secure sufficient brightness in display, and can display black. A transflective display device 1 includes a display panel 2 and a backlight 3. The display panel 2 includes a substrate 10 having an electrode 12. a substrate 20 having an electrode 22, and an optical modulation layer 30 containing shape-anisotropic members 32. A frequency of a voltage to be applied to the electrodes 12 and 22 is changed so as to rotate the shape-anisotropic members 32. When the shape-anisotropic members 32 are oriented such that their major axes extend in parallel with one of the substrates on which the shape-anisotropic members 32 abut, multiple reflection of incoming light is caused, and thus black is displayed.

Abstract: A camera mounting assembly includes a base member or plate for holding a camera and a side member or plate. In an exemplary embodiment, lower slots on the base plate or side slots on the side plate are gripped by a vertical support's quick-release mechanism to mount the camera in a landscape or portrait orientation, respectively, the camera being generally centered and evenly balanced over the support in either case. The side member is detachably fastened to the base member, which modular construction permits separately timed purchase of the base member and side member as allowed by the user's budget and further permits breakdown of the assembly for ease of transport. The side member may be generally L-shaped with a lower arm length less than the side arm length, which also facilitates transport. Other components may be detachably added such as a hand grip facilitating freehand shooting with the camera.

  • Patent number: 9298076
Abstract: An image projector for augmenting the appearance of a physical object is disclosed, also known as an augmented reality projector. The augmented reality projector comprises an optical arrangement to provide the possibility of precise matching of a projected image of the physical object back onto the object itself, instead of using digital image processing to do so. Digital image processing may be used to enhance features of the image and is not required for resizing or orienting the image to the object. This reduces the need for computational power to process the image and spares processing resources to refresh the image in real time. Accordingly, the processed image can be refreshed to change the appearance of a moving object. Furthermore, the precise matching provides the possibility of using projected images a graphical use interface, as movements of a user's fingers on the interface can be determined accurately.
