Abstract: This application relates to methods, apparatus, and systems for throttling a subsystem of a computing device, when a current demanded by the subsystem exceeds a threshold value, in order to protect a power supply providing the current to the subsystem. By reducing the current demanded by the subsystem, the subsystem can be powered by a power supply having a smaller dynamic current range than the subsystem, thereby removing the need to provide a larger power supply for the subsystem. The demand current is measured before the current provided by the power supply significantly increases and a transient current source providing current to the subsystem is depleted. In this way, the subsystem can be throttled before the power supply is aware of an increase in the current demand.

Abstract: A “Natural Motion Controller” identifies various motions of one or more parts of a user's body to interact with electronic devices, thereby enabling various natural user interface (NUI) scenarios. The Natural Motion Controller constructs composite motion recognition windows by concatenating an adjustable number of sequential periods of inertial sensor data received from a plurality of separate sets of inertial sensors. Each of these separate sets of inertial sensors are coupled to, or otherwise provide sensor data relating to, a separate user worn, carried, or held mobile computing device. Each composite motion recognition window is then passed to a motion recognition model trained by one or more machine-based deep learning processes. This motion recognition model is then applied to the composite motion recognition windows to identify a sequence of one or more predefined motions. Identified motions are then used as the basis for triggering execution of one or more application commands.

Abstract: A method of repositioning of screen elements from a first orientation to a second orientation with rendering one or more active screen elements on the display area in the first orientation. In one embodiment, upon detection to a second orientation, the active screen elements are re-rendered on the display area to be displayed in the new orientation while the direction of movement of animation remains in the same direction relative to the display area. In another embodiment, the method may consist of maintaining a list of screen elements and a list of graphical features including a directionality indicator where the directionality indicator points in a first direction in a first orientation and the same first direction in a second orientation. Re-rendering may be accomplished using a subset of HTML5 and a subset of CSS3 or its successors without having to use code native to the device containing the display area.

Abstract: A method, non-transitory computer readable medium, and apparatus for localizing a region of interest using a hand gesture are disclosed. For example, the method acquires an image containing the hand gesture from the ego-centric video, detects pixels that correspond to one or more hands in the image using a hand segmentation algorithm, identifies a hand enclosure in the pixels that are detected within the image, localizes a region of interest based on the hand enclosure and performs an action based on the object in the region of interest.

Abstract: A method, non-transitory computer-readable medium, and apparatus for localizing a region of interest using a dynamic hand gesture are disclosed. For example, the method captures the ego-centric video containing the dynamic hand gesture, analyzes a frame of the ego-centric video to detect pixels that correspond to a fingertip using a hand segmentation algorithm, analyzes temporally one or more frames of the ego-centric video to compute a path of the fingertip in the dynamic hand gesture, localizes the region of interest based on the path of the fingertip in the dynamic hand gesture and performs an action based on an object in the region of interest.

Abstract: Techniques and systems are described that enable improved gesture discernment from input devices, as well as simplified modeling and processing of gestures by application software layers. Given data (e.g., about movements, actions, or events) gathered from input devices, techniques and systems allow gestures to be discerned and inferred more formally and reliably, and processed more easily by an application layer. A gesture interpreter is provided that, in response to receiving an activation input data from an input device, instantiates a high-level Petri Net instance, executes the high-level Petri Net instance, and returns, to an application layer, an outcome gesture indicative of a terminal node in a path of the high-level Petri Net instance being traversed during the execution of the high-level Petri Net instance.

Abstract: This relates to a device that detects a user's motion and gesture input through the movement of one or more of the user's hand, arm, wrist, and fingers, for example, to provide commands to the device or to other devices. The device can be attached to, resting on, or touching the user's wrist, ankle or other body part. One or more optical sensors, inertial sensors, mechanical contact sensors, and myoelectric sensors can detect movements of the user's body. Based on the detected movements, a user gesture can be determined. The device can interpret the gesture as an input command, and the device can perform an operation based on the input command. By detecting movements of the user's body and associating the movements with input commands, the device can receive user input commands through another means in addition to, or instead of, voice and touch input, for example.
