Abstract: In a machining apparatus, a tool has a specified point for machining a workpiece, and a support supports the tool while a position and an orientation of the specified point of the tool are changeable. A actuator actuates the support to move the tool, and a sensor measures a magnitude and an orientation of force upon the force being applied to the tool. A determiner determines, upon the force being applied to the tool, a target orientation of the specified point of the tool according to the magnitude and the orientation of the force measured by the sensor. The force applied to the tool having an orientation to separate the tool from the workpiece. A controller controls the actuator to move the tool according to the determined target orientation.

Abstract: A wireless gimbal connection of use with electronics devices such as computer notebooks relatively pivotable portions such as a lid and base. The gimbal includes a carriage on which transmitter and receiver chips are mounted, and further has a magnet whose magnetic forces may be used to bring the gimbaled carriage into a predetermined alignment with the base, which may be used to arrange the chips and any sensors as may be used into alignment as well. As the orientation of the lid varies with respect to the base, the carriage within seeks alignment with the base due to the magnetic forces present. Where the base is located on a flat surface, gravitational forces also contribute to the alignment.

Abstract: Disclosures are presented for systems and apparatus for docking a mobile computing device for display and for coupling it with a cable for purposes of charging and/or syncing. Such teachings may allow a user to reel the cable around a spool, couple the mobile computing device with the cable, decouple the mobile computing device, and/or swivel the mobile computer in its stand with relative ease, such as with a single hand, through the use of micro-suction cups. Disclosures are made about how the cable may be threaded through and secured by such systems and apparatus. Additional disclosures teach approaches for standing the mobile computer in its dock and for making accommodating adjustments to such a stand to provide adaptability across a range of mobile computer configurations, among other disclosures.

Abstract: An internal fastening feature that also acts as a means of separating a housing body from a protective cover is disclosed. The internal fastening feature includes two arms that meet at a central hub that is pivotally coupled to a bracket. The bracket is coupled to an interior-facing surface of the protective cover. A first arm defines a threaded opening that receives a fastener that keeps the protective cover coupled with the housing body. A second arm, extending in a different direction than the first arm, is positioned above a protrusion of the housing body. When the fastener is disengaged from the first arm, a disengaging tool can apply a force to the first arm that rotates the second arm until it presses against the protrusion. The force applied to the protrusion is then transmitted to the protective cover, which is consequently pushed away from the housing body.

Abstract: This application relates to methods and apparatus relating to an adhesive bond that includes an integrated release mechanism. The adhesive bond can secure components in a portable electronic device, such as a battery, to the housing of the portable electronic device. The release mechanism can be embodied as a thin layer of polymeric material sandwiched between a first adhesive layer and a second adhesive layer. The first and second adhesive layers are joined to one another by a number of pillars that extend through openings in the release mechanism. A portion of the release mechanism can protrude from the adhesive bond allowing a technician or user to pull the release mechanism out of the adhesive bond, which severs the pillars that hold the adhesive layers together. In this way, the release mechanism allows for efficient separation of the adhesively secured components.
