Publication number: 20160098589Abstract: Both pixel-oriented analysis and the more accurate yet slower object-oriented analysis are used to recognize patterns in images of stained cancer tissue. Images of tissue from other patients that are similar to tissue of a target patient are identified using the standard deviation of color in the images. Object-oriented segmentation is then used to segment small portions of the images of the other patients into object exhibiting object characteristics. Pixelwise descriptors associate each pixel in the remainder of the images with object characteristics based on the color of pixels at predetermined offsets from the characterized pixel. Pixels in the image of the target patient are assigned object characteristics without performing the slow segmentation of the image into objects. A pixel heat map is generated from the target image by assigning pixels the color corresponding to the object characteristic that the pixelwise descriptors indicate is most likely associated with each pixel.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 26, 2015Publication date: April 7, 2016Inventor: Nicolas Brieu

Publication number: 20160098611Abstract: Various embodiments enable the identification of semi-structured text entities in an imager. The identification of the text entities is a relatively simple problem when the text is stored in a computer and free of errors, but much more challenging if the source is the output of an optical character recognition (OCR) engine from a natural scene image. Publication number: 20160098615Abstract: In order to produce an image processing filter by utilizing genetic programming, a taught parameter acquiring unit acquires a taught parameter indicating a feature shape in an input image before processing. A data processing unit creates an output image by processing the input image with an image processing filter, and subsequently a feature extracting unit extracts a detected parameter indicating a feature shape in the output image. An automatic configuring unit evaluates the image processing filter by calculating cosine similarity between the taught parameter and the detected parameter.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 14, 2015Publication date: April 7, 2016Applicant: FUJITSU LIMITEDInventors: Tsuyoshi Nagato, Tetsuo Koezuka

Publication number: 20160098618Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product for assigning an aesthetic score to an image. A method of the present invention includes receiving an image comprising a set of global features. The method includes extracting a set of global features for the image. The method further includes encoding the extracted set of global features into a high-dimensional feature vector. The method further includes reducing the dimension of the high-dimensional feature vector. The method further includes applying a machine-learned model to assign an aesthetic score to the image, wherein a more aesthetically-pleasing image is given a higher aesthetic score and a less aesthetically-pleasing image is given a lower aesthetic score.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 3, 2014Publication date: April 7, 2016Applicant: EyeEm Mobile GmbHInventors: Appu SHAJI, Ramzi RIZK

Publication number: 20160098619Abstract: An object detection method includes for each of a set of patches of an image, encoding features of the patch with a non-linear mapping function, and computing per-patch statistics based on the encoded features for approximating a window-level non-linear operation by a patch-level operation. Then, windows are extracted from the image, each window comprising a sub-set of the set of patches. Each of the windows is scored based on the computed patch statistics of the respective sub-set of patches. Objects, if any, can then be detected in the image, based on the window scores. The method and system allow the non-linear operations to be performed only at the patch level, reducing the computation time of the method, since there are generally many more windows than patches, while not impacting performance unduly, as compared to a system which performs non-linear operations at the window level.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 2, 2014Publication date: April 7, 2016Inventors: Adrien Gaidon, Diane Larlus-Larrondo, Florent C. Publication number: 20160098620Abstract: A system and method for object classification is provided. The system includes a computing device that typically comprises a processor configured to receive data and detect an object within the data. Once an object is detected, it can be decomposed into sub-objects and connectivities. Based on the sub-objects and connectivities parameters can be generated. Moreover, based on at least one of sub-objects, connectivities and parameters objective measures can be generated. The object can then be classified based on the objective measures. The parameters can be linked into into linked parameters. Linked classification measures can be generated based on linked parameters. The system can also detect environment objects that form the environment of the detected object. Similar to an object, an environment object can be decomposed into environment sub-objects, and subsequently to environment parameters.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 11, 2013Publication date: April 7, 2016Applicant: 1626628 ONTARIO LIMITEDInventor: 1626628 Ontario Limited

Publication number: 20160098622Abstract: Provided is a method of authenticating a user by correlating speech and corresponding lip shape. An audiovisual of a user requesting authentication is captured. The audiovisual is processed to generate a speech vector quantization sequence and a corresponding lip vector quantization sequence of the user. A likelihood of the speech vector quantization sequence and the corresponding lip vector quantization sequence with probability distributions of speech vector quantization code words corresponding to different lip shape vector quantization code words of the user requesting authentication weighed by probabilities of speech and lip vector quantization indices of the user requesting authentication is evaluated. If upon evaluation, a likelihood of the user requesting authentication being an authentic user is more than a predefined threshold, the user is authenticated.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 27, 2013Publication date: April 7, 2016Inventors: SITARAM RAMACHANDRULA, HARIHARAN RAVISHANKAR

Publication number: 20160098623Abstract: A method and an apparatus for recognizing characters using an image are provided. A camera is activated according to a character recognition request and a preview mode is set for displaying an image photographed through the camera in real time. An auto focus of the camera is controlled and an image having a predetermined level of clarity is obtained for character recognition from the images obtained in the preview mode. The image for character recognition is character-recognition-processed so as to extract recognition result data. A final recognition character row is drawn that excludes non-character data from the recognition result data. A first word is combined including at least one character of the final recognition character row and a predetermined maximum number of characters. A dictionary database that stores dictionary information on various languages using the first word is searched, so as to provide the user with the corresponding word.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 15, 2015Publication date: April 7, 2016Inventors: Hyun-Soo KIM, Seong-Taek HWANG, Sang-Wook OH, Sang-Ho KIM, Yun-Je OH, Hee-Won JUNG, Sung-Cheol KIM
