Publication number: 20160101378Abstract: An in-line or in situ filter is disclosed for filtering fluid flowing through a hydraulic system, and particularly an automotive hydraulic system. The filter has a magnetic base with a central opening at its outlet end and a seat with a central opening at its inlet. The base and the seat are joined by a cylindrical filter element made of a magnetically susceptible mesh screen material. A spring within the filter element biases a ball against the central opening of the seat normally sealing off the opening and forcing fluid to flow through the filter element to be filtered before exiting through the central opening of the base. If the mesh screen becomes clogged, backpressure forces the ball away from the seat against the bias of the spring to allow fluid to bypass the filter element and flow directly through the filter. In the process, ferrous debris entrained within the fluid flow continues to be captured by attraction to the magnetic base and the magnetized filter element.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 11, 2015Publication date: April 14, 2016Inventors: Aaron Becker, Myron Stein

Publication number: 20160101390Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for modifying polymeric membranes to mitigate biofouling. More particularly, dopamine powder is dissolved in a buffer solution, and the membrane surface is exposed to the solution, resulting in the formation of a polydopamine thin film on the membrane. The surface of the polydopamine-modified membrane is then exposed to AgNO3 solutions, resulting in the formation of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) on the membrane surface. The resulting membrane is expected to be resistant to biofouling for at least two reasons. First, polydopamine is extremely hydrophilic and thus membranes modified with polydopamine are resistant to bacterial attachment, which is the first stage of the biofouling process. Second, silver nanoparticles are antimicrobial and these nanoparticles on the membrane surface serve to inactivate depositing bacteria, and thus, retard the growth and proliferation of bacteria on the membrane.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 17, 2015Publication date: April 14, 2016Inventors: Kai Loon Chen, Li Tang

Publication number: 20160101403Abstract: A lean MEG stream having a first pH level is contacted with a CO2-rich gas stream to yield a lean MEG product having a second different and lower pH level preferably in a range of 6.5 to 7.0. The system and method can be readily incorporated into a slipstream MEG recovery package, with a source of the lean MEG stream being a MEG regeneration section of the package. The CO2-rich gas could be a vented CO2 stream from the MEG reclamation section of the package. Unlike hydrochloric and acetic acid overdosing, CO2 overdosing of the lean MEG stream does not lead to rapid acidification of the lean MEG product to be stored or injected.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 17, 2015Publication date: April 14, 2016Inventor: Brian E. Publication number: 20160101405Abstract: In a process for producing para-xylene, a feed stream comprising C6+ aromatic hydrocarbons is separated into a C7— aromatic hydrocarbon-containing stream, a C8 aromatic hydrocarbon-containing stream, and a C9+ aromatic hydrocarbon-containing stream. The C7? aromatic hydrocarbon-containing stream is contacted with a methylating agent to convert toluene to xylenes and produce a methylated effluent stream. Ethylbenzene is removed from the C8 aromatic hydrocarbon-containing stream, para-xylene is recovered from the ethylbenzene-depleted C8 aromatic hydrocarbon-containing stream and the methylated effluent stream in a para-xylene recovery section to produce a para-xylene depleted stream, which is then contacted with a xylene isomerization catalyst under liquid phase conditions effective to isomerize xylenes in the para-xylene depleted stream and produce an isomerized stream.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 17, 2015Publication date: April 14, 2016Inventors: Robert G. Publication number: 20160101407Abstract: A methane microporous carbon adsorbent comprising a thermally-treated CVD carbon having a shape in the form of a negative replica of a crystalline zeolite has a BET specific surface area, a micropore volume, a micropore to mesopore volume ratio, a stored methane value and a methane delivered value and a sequential carbon synthesis method for forming the methane microporous carbon adsorbent. Introducing an organic precursor gas for a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) period to a crystalline zeolite that is maintained at a CVD temperature forms the carbon-zeolite composite.
