  • Patent number: 9320283
Abstract: Despite efforts of eradication and sanitation, Phytophthora ramorum persists in the United States and has been a problem in commercial nurseries since 2001. Detection in a nursery immediately causes the nursery to be under quarantine until the P. ramorum can be proven to be eradicated. Treatment with the biological control agent Trichoderma asperellum showed promise in laboratory results to remediate P. ramorum-infested potting soil. Sixteen T. asperellum isolates were screened, found to have variable mycoparasitic activities, and further tested in natural field settings. Field plots having P. ramorum-infested soil were treated with T. asperellum, a chemical and two different commercial biological control products and compared to non-treated infested soil. After 8 weeks, P. ramorum populations were not detected in the soil treated with T. asperellum isolate 04-22 showing that T. asperellum isolate 04-22 could remediate soils infested with P. ramorum under natural field conditions.

  • Patent number: 9320312
Abstract: Footwear fabrication methods are disclosed, having reduced material consumption and/or waste requirements, compared to conventional methods, as well as the footwear articles made by such methods. The fabrication methods and articles are characterized by the selective use of a bonding agent, in the form of a powder or tackified (e.g., preheated) powder, to bond various material panels, such substrate, mesh, and/or skin panels in the formation of a composite panel (e.g., a bonded mesh composite panel), which may in turn be used to provide a footwear upper and ultimately an article of footwear. The bonding agent is particularly applicable to fabrication processes utilizing a combination of heat and pressure for bonding or fusing material panels, each having a suitable composition, size, shape, and thickness, into the particular configuration of the footwear upper.

Abstract: Sports footwear, in particular to a ski boot, having an adjustable rear spoiler is provided. The spoiler is connected by respective connecting elements to the side elements attached to or integral with the cuff of the sports footwear and the distance of the connecting elements from each other can be adjusted by acting on a single, common adjusting device. Thus, adjustment of the volume inside the cuff, which receives the ankle and the lower portion of the calf of a user, takes place in an extremely simple and quick manner and without the risk of asymmetries in the adjustment.

  • Patent number: 9320317
Abstract: In a sole construction for a running shoe having an outer sole and an intermediate sole, the sole construction including a plurality of hollow elements which are in each case closed off by front and rear flanks in the longitudinal direction of the sole construction but are open at the sides and have upper and lower inner faces at a mutual spacing. The hollow elements are configured to absorb forces which act on them during running in each case by elastic deformation with a reduction in the spacing between their inner faces and optionally by horizontal displacement of their inner faces with respect to one another. The hollow elements are configured to deform to such an extent that their upper and lower inner faces come into contact with one another, and that this contact prevents a horizontal displacement of their inner faces with respect to one another.

  • Patent number: 9320318
Abstract: Shoes and/or shoe elements facilitate natural foot motion and/or reduce forces tending to fight natural foot motion. In at least some such structures, a wearer's heel is secured to the hindfoot region of a shoe (e.g., by a strap system) in a manner that permits heel/forefoot rotation and that allows the lower leg to remain straight. In other structures, a shoe can include a heel supporting component that is separate from a midsole component, and this heel supporting component can move toward the lateral side and/or medial side of the shoe along an interface between the heel supporting component and the midsole component. Other suitable shoe and shoe component structures also are described.
