Abstract: A method and apparatus for traffic safety are provided using vehicle driving-related information obtained on the basis of a transmission/reception beam pair of a road side unit (RSU) and a vehicle on-board unit (OBU), thereby reducing a probability that vehicle collisions occur where visual fields may be obscured. The method includes setting a path from a current location of the electronic device to a destination, and transmitting a message indicating an emergency situation to other devices located on the path while moving to the destination. The method further includes determining a transmission/reception beam pair of the electronic device and a road apparatus, using a reference signal received from the road apparatus, transmitting a signal including information for the transmission/reception beam pair to the road apparatus, and receiving, from the road apparatus, a message warning that the electronic device and another neighboring electronic device are approaching each other.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for mitigating the risks associated with driving by assigning risk values to road segments and using those risk values to select less risky travel routes. Various approaches to helping users mitigate risk are presented. A computing device is configured to generate a database of risk values. That device may receive accident information, geographic information, vehicle information, and other information from one or more data sources and calculate a risk value for the associated road segment. Subsequently, the computing device may provide the associated risk value to other devices. Furthermore, a personal navigation device may receive travel route information and use that information to retrieve risk values for the road segments in the travel route. An insurance company may use this information to determine whether to adjust a quote or premium of an insurance policy.

The battery module then determines battery charging information associated with presenting guidance information via at least one application of at least one device during the at least one navigation route. Further, the battery management module causes, at least in part, a presentation of the battery charging information on at least one user interface of the at least one device. In one embodiment, the charging information can be updated based on selecting one or more segments of the at least one navigation route to hibernate. In yet another embodiment, alternative content that is less battery intensive can be presented during the hibernated segments in place of active navigation information.

Abstract: The accuracy of a reverse geocode for a GPS fix in a mobile phone navigation device is improved significantly by considering together the user's last known location on an original route, the elapsed time between the last known location on the original route and the latest GPS fix, and the likelihood that the user could have traveled from the last known location on the original route to one of numerous candidate locations (generated from the reverse geocode) in the elapsed time. The navigation server relies only on a GPS fix, timestamps, and a back-end routing database to provide improved or superior accuracy of reverse geocoding a GPS fix (selection of a point on a road) when a relevant user has deviated from the intended route. The reverse geocoding allows for accurate and functional re-routing capabilities.

Abstract: A method of determining a mass flow rate of product being applied with an agricultural implement includes the steps of: calibrating a pressure drop across a known distance in an air line at a number of air flow rates; metering a product at a desired application rate into the air line at a selected air flow rate; establishing a pressure drop across the known distance at the selected air flow rate, while the product is being metered; calculating a specific pressure drop by dividing the established pressure drop by the determined pressure drop; ascertaining the values of parameters A and B using the mathematical expression: ?=1+A?+B?{square root over (?)} where: ?=specific pressure drop; ?=mass loading ratio; and A and B=parameters based on measured data for the specific product being applied; and estimating a mass flow rate of the product being applied.

Abstract: A method for compensating for changes in a property of water in a multiphase fluid during analysis of the multiphase fluid is provided. In one embodiment, the method includes providing a multiphase flow meter system configured to emit and detect nuclear radiation, to emit and detect microwave radiation, and to analyze a received multiphase fluid. The method can also include measuring a temperature and a microwave complex permittivity of the multiphase fluid. Further, the method includes compensating for changes in the property of water in the multiphase fluid during analysis of the multiphase fluid by using an empirical transformation between the fluid temperatures, microwave complex permittivities and nuclear mass attenuation coefficients for mixtures of different waters expected to be produced and received by the multiphase flow meter system. Additional systems, devices, and methods are also disclosed.

Abstract: A measurement device arrangement includes a measurement device measuring a distance to an object, for example in the form of a depth measurement. A control unit is provided, which calculates the point in time for the next distance measurement, taking account of current or predicted weather conditions at the location of the measurement device. The frequency of the measurement can thus be adjusted to the weather conditions in order to reduce the power consumption of the measurement device without having to go without punctual reports of depth changes in the process.
