Patent number: 9370664Abstract: The disclosed techniques allow for externalizing errors from an implantable medical device using the device's charging coil, for receipt at an external charger or other external device. Transmission of errors in this manner is particularly useful when telemetry of error codes through a traditional telemetry coil in the implant is not possible, for example, because the error experienced is so fundamental as to preclude use of such traditional means. By externalizing the error via the charging coil, and though the use of robust error modulation circuitry in the implant designed to be generally insensitive to fundamental errors, the external charger can be consulted to understand the failure mode involved, and to take appropriate action.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 2009Date of Patent: June 21, 2016Assignee: Boston Scientific Neuromodulation CorporationInventors: Goran N. Patent number: 9370665Abstract: An external defibrillator system is disclosed that generates and applies a diagnostic signal to the patient in conjunction with defibrillation therapy. The diagnostic signal is designed to elicit a physiologic response from the patient's heart, namely, mechanical cardiac response and electrical cardiac response, electrical cardiac response only, or no cardiac response. Depending upon the type of cardiac response detected, the system selects an appropriate resuscitation protocol that considers the likely responsiveness of the patient to defibrillation therapy. In one practical embodiment, a stimulus signal is applied to patients that show mechanical and electrical capture in response to the diagnostic signal. The stimulus signal maintains the mechanical capture (and, therefore, perfusion) for a period of time prior to the delivery of a defibrillation pulse.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 2014Date of Patent: June 21, 2016Assignee: PHYSIO-CONTROL, INC.Inventors: David R. Patent number: 9370672Abstract: This is a new technique in IMRT and 3D conformal gamma radiation dose delivery using a linear accelerator with no flattening filter. The technique improves patient radiation therapy by reducing radiation scattered to surrounding normal tissue and reducing electron contamination. It increases dose rate to shorten treatment time. Linear accelerators have for decades come with a photon flattening filter to make the photon profile of planar fluence to make the dose distribution more uniform. These filters, however, resulted in fluence attenuation and contamination of the beam. Now in the age of techniques such as intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) the function of the flattening filter becomes redundant. The flattening filter now merely reduces the efficiency of the beam by reducing the fluence and increasing scattered radiation. Our technique involves removal of the flattening filter for complex treatments. It uses inverse planning along with multi-leaf collimators to shape the dose distribution.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2007Date of Patent: June 21, 2016Assignee: The University of ToledoInventors: E. Patent number: 9370690Abstract: A mobile telephone device includes a control unit that determines that a state is a state of walking or a movement state different from the state of walking, based on acceleration. In a case in which the control unit determines that a state is the movement state different from the state of walking, if a state immediately before determining the movement state different from the state of walking is the state of walking, the control unit makes the determination valid. As an example, the movement state different from the state of walking is a state of moving on a bicycle or a state of moving by transportation other than the bicycle.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 2013Date of Patent: June 21, 2016Assignee: KYOCERA CORPORATIONInventors: Shigeki Tanabe, Hideki Morita

Patent number: 9370691Abstract: A method of determining a user's training load, includes determining protein combustion information and determining the user's training load based on the protein combustion information. The protein combustion information may be determined using heart rate information, activity information, carbohydrate reserve information determined using a carbohydrate combustion model and carbohydrate reserve information representing the user's carbohydrate reserves at a beginning of at least one exercise session, fitness information, intensity information, nutritional intake information representing nutritional intake during at least one exercise session, and/or a fat combustion model. The user's training load may be determined based on a mechanical stimulus and/or a modality. Recovery time information may be determined based on the training load. A corresponding apparatus and computer-readable medium correspond to the above method.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2009Date of Patent: June 21, 2016Assignee: POLAR ELECTRO OYInventors: Juuso Samuel Nissila, Hannu Olavi Kinnunen
