Abstract: A projectile includes a component that is highly reflective and configured to reveal the projectile's trajectory when the projectile is fired from a gun and electromagnetic radiation is directed toward the projectile. With the reflective component, one can more easily limit the visibility of the projectile to areas from where the projectile was fired because the reflective component is passive, not active. As the projectile moves down range, the areas behind the projectile are typically where a shooter and/or spotter for the shooter are located, not where an enemy combatant is located. Abstract: A distance measurement device includes a transceiving unit that, in a distance measurement process between the distance measurement device and nodes, transmits a command to the nodes, and receives a response as a response to the command; and a distance measurement control unit that instructs the transceiving unit to transmit the command when the distance measurement process starts, measures a period of time until the response is received after the command is transmitted, and calculates a distances between the distance measurement device and the nodes on the basis of the measured period of time. The distance measurement control unit determines the number of repetitions for the distance measurement process until the distance is calculated after the command is transmitted on the basis of the calculated distance.

Abstract: A positioning system, in particular, six-dimensions positioning system of a shadow sensor with respect to a constellation of light sources is provided. The sensor can be a shadow sensor and has a mask and a 2D imager. By recording the shadow of the mask cast by each light source on the imager, and by properly multiplexing the light sources, the system can compute the 6D position of the shadow sensor with respect to the constellation of light sources. This computation is based, in part, on treating the shadow of the mask cast on the imager as the equivalent of the projection of light in a pinhole or projective camera. In one embodiment, the system is applied in a surgical domain. In another embodiment, the system is rapidly deployed.

Abstract: A method for quality testing a tube bundle is provided. The tube bundle includes a plurality of tubes. The method includes providing a collimated light source and a receiving screen at a first end and a second end of the tube bundle respectively. The second end of the tube bundle is distal from the first end of the tube bundle. The method further includes directing a light beam through the tube bundle, wherein the light beam enters the tube bundle at an incident light intensity. The method includes passing the light beam through each of the plurality of tubes. The method also includes measuring, on the receiving screen, a received light intensity of the light beam exiting each of the plurality of tubes. The method further includes comparing the received light intensity with the incident light intensity, and determining a quality of the tube bundle based on the comparison.

Thereafter, in case that the board is judged good as a result of the inspection, the board is transferred to the mounter, and in case that the board is judged no good as the result of the inspection, the board is finally determined no good without transferring the board to the mounter. Thus, unnecessary works and defective products may be prevented beforehand, and productivity and efficiency of inspection may be increased.

Abstract: An optical fiber sensing spring of the present invention includes a longer cylindrical tension coil spring, a shorter cylindrical compression coil spring and a longer cylindrical tension coil spring that are connected in series to form a spring having the same inner and outer diameters. A single-mode optical fiber manufactured with a long section of fiber grating is placed in the manufactured spring. This section of the fiber grating is tensed to two ends of the cylindrical compression coil spring having a predetermined gauge length, and the force applied is released. A pre-tensing method for providing a maximum tolerable compression strain and manufacturing technology for this sensing element are then achieved. Thus, the self-tensed optical fiber sensing spring structure satisfies a standard 0.9 mm outer diameter, is fully spring jacketed by the full spring jacketing and protection layer, and forms a linear stress-strain relationship in an elasticity stretched elastic region.
