  • Patent number: 9441376
Abstract: Provided are novel building integrable photovoltaic (BIP) assemblies and methods of installation thereof on building structures. The BIP assembly includes a base sheet or a sheath, which may be a plywood board or an oriented strand (OSB) board, and multiple electrically interconnected photovoltaic inserts, which are attached to and supported by the base sheet. The base sheet is configured to be positioned directly the building structures, such as roof rafters. Various electrical components may be positioned within cavities of the base sheet and/or at the back side of that sheet. Such components are configured to align in between the roof rafters during installation. The spacing between the rafters provides access to the components and allows the components to extend away from the base sheet and into the spacing. Various electrical components may be installed and removed from the BIP assembly during its fabrication and/or installation.

  • Patent number: 9441379
Abstract: A flooring system includes a plurality of individual flooring pieces, such as floor panels, each having a wear surface, an opposing mounting surface and a retention groove disposed within the mounting surface. A floor panel connector used to interconnect at least two of the floor panels has a base, at least one mast extending from an upper surface of the base and a pair of flexible arms. Each flexible arm extends transversely from opposing sides of the at least one mast and has an extending end. Contacting portions extending from a lower surface of the base are configured to engage the support surface and create a spacing between each flexible arm and the support surface to permit each flexible arm to elastically deflect toward the support surface when pressure is exerted on a floor panel. This deflection enables the extending end of each flexible arm to engage the retention groove of a corresponding floor panel.

  • Patent number: 9441382
Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for servicing a vehicle, such as an airplane. The apparatus includes a mobile maintenance platform configured to position in proximity to the airplane and airplane components such as the engine and the fuselage. A cantilever deck provides a slip resistant surface to work on. A gap on the edge of the deck enables the deck to position near the airplane component. Clamps on either side of the gap apply sufficient force to stabilize the component and also serve to close the gap completely, forming a flat surface across. A railing acts as a barrier on the edge of the deck. A frame supports the deck. Adjustable legs support the frame. A jack raises and lowers the legs to regulate elevation of the deck. A tow hitch enables the apparatus to be moved. An adjustable ladder provides access to the deck.

  • Patent number: 9441383
Abstract: The present invention disclosed a construction apparatus and method for lifting structure integrally over the obstacles in vertical direction to a position with different horizontal projection. The apparatus comprises two platform beams placed each other in parallel, two lifting beams laterally relative to the platform beams and a lifter equipped with the lifting beams. Push instrument kits are installed on the platform beams and the lifting beams respectively, and a plurality of sets of baffles installed on both sides of the platform beams to provide the push instrument kits with a counter-force when the push instrument kits work. When the structure encounters obstacles during the process of lifting the structure by two lifters, the posture of the structure can be altered by operating the push instrument kits and the lifters, such that the horizontal projection of the structure will be reduced and the structure can therefore be lifted over the obstacle in vertical direction.

  • Patent number: 9441392
Abstract: A partition mount system includes an integrated plunger assembly. The integrated plunger assembly is constructed and arranged to be integrated into an interior of an end of an extension pole, for example a standard telescoping extension pole. Mounting of the plunger in an interior portion of the pole in this manner provides for a sleek design that is relatively lightweight. Assuming that the pole in which the anchor is mounted is part of a telescoping pole system, the anchor and plunger do not interfere with full travel of the interior pole with respect to other poles in the telescoping system. In this manner, operation of the telescoping pole system is not inhibited by the integrated plunger assembly.

  • Patent number: 9441394
Abstract: A shade cover or “solar fly” is provided for reducing the thermal radiation effects of the sun on an associated shelter. By blocking the sun's rays to a significant degree, the outer surface temperature of an associated shelter is reduced, which results in less heat transfer into the interior space thereof. The shade cover and associated shelter may be cooperatively configured to employ natural convection to aid in reducing heat transfer into the interior space of the associated shelter. Natural convection known as the chimney effect may be used to reduce heat transfer into the interior space of the associated shelter. Such reduction of heat transfer into the interior space reduces the air conditioning load needed to maintain the interior space of the associated shelter at ambient temperatures of, for example, 76-84 degrees Fahrenheit among others.

Abstract: A power actuator is provided for a door latch. A transfer lever within the housing is selectively coupled to a motor-driven worm gear via a lost motion connector. Engaging the motor moves the transfer lever between a locked and an unlocked position, actuating an output lever mounted to a spline on the transfer lever. The worm gear returns to a neutral position when the motor is disengaged, leaving the transfer lever in either the locked or unlocked positions. Manually moving the output lever causes the transfer lever to move between its locked and unlocked positions without back-driving the worm gear. A toggle mechanism prevents the transfer lever from accidentally moving or only moving partially between the locked and unlocked positions.

With said supporting strip and bonding film, the thin strip can be designed to be much thinner than the conventional thin strip, such that the production cost of the multilayer kick plate is reduced.

Abstract: A window includes a vacuum insulating glass (VIG) window unit in a window frame. The window frame includes at least one vacuum insulated structure (VIS) for improving the insulating functionality of the frame, so that the frame can adequately insulate the periphery of the VIG unit. Such windows may be used in residential and/or commercial window applications for buildings. The use of a window frame having at least one VIS is advantageous in that allows for improved window frame thermal performance and a narrow frame design if desired for improved aesthetics.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for low temperature laser sealing of bonded articles is disclosed. Hermetic sealing of glass substrates using low temperature sealing techniques that do not adversely affect bulk strength of glass substrates, the environment created between the substrates and/or any components housed within the sealed glass substrates is disclosed. Such low temperature sealing techniques include use of localized laser heating of sealing materials to form a hermetic seal between glass substrates that does not involve heating the entire article to be sealed.

  • Patent number: 9441419
Abstract: The optimized soil penetrating machine is characterized by parameters that are optimized with respect to maximum kinetic energy that the machine cyclically obtains for soil deformation during the forward mode of operation. The optimization of the parameters is based on the author's analytical investigation that revealed the existence of the optimal values of the lengths of the striker and its forward stroke at which the machine's kinetic energy reaches its maximum value, resulting in the maximum performance efficiency. The investigation shows that the optimal value of the length of the striker is shorter than the length of its forward stroke. In the existing machines the striker is longer than its forward stroke. This investigation also shows that the efficiency of the existing machines is about 2.5 times less than for their optimized hypothetical counterparts. Since the existing machines cannot be optimized it is required to implement new design concepts.

  • Patent number: 9441420
Abstract: A lateral wellbore is formed from a high side of a horizontal portion of a primary wellbore with a drill bit assembly that has a selectively extendable pilot bit. The drill bit assembly is mounted on a lower end of a drill string. A bit guide is disposed adjacent the drill bit assembly for urging the drill bit assembly in a lateral direction against the high side of the primary wellbore. Rotating the drill bit assembly while urging the drill bit assembly upward creates a groove in a subterranean formation adjacent the primary wellbore. This forms a ledge at a far end of the groove. The drill string is then drawn back from the groove, and the pilot bit is deployed. Urging the drill bit assembly forward engages the pilot bit with the ledge, providing leverage for retaining the drill bit assembly in an orientation for excavating the lateral wellbore.
