Abstract: Systems and methods can be provided to use an automated cutting system to identify an edge or multiple edges of a workpiece. An automated cutting system receives trace data for a test path to be traced over a workpiece. The automated cutting system includes a torch from which gas is flowed. The torch is controlled in accordance with the trace data to trace the test path over the workpiece. A set of back pressure values are obtained by monitoring a back pressure of the gas during the tracing of the path. The back pressure values are mapped to a set of coordinates. An edge of the workpiece is identified using the set of back pressure values and the set of coordinates.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a conditioning method of gas turbine engine components (e.g. compressor blades and vanes) for increasing fuel efficiency. The gas turbine engine components are plasma treated in a high vacuum environment to generally reach a surface roughness (Ra) below 150 nanometers and in some cases below 25 nanometers. Then during the same process the components are coated using either a metallic or ceramic, hard, thin coating ranging from 100 to 3000 nanometers in thickness depending on desired surface smoothness and non-fouling properties. The same treatment combined with a surface relaxation process, which is part of a smoothing process, allows applying even up to 100 micrometers of hard coating without changes to high cycle fatigue properties and overall performance. Improved surface smoothness of the components and enhanced non-adhesiveness of the contaminants advance the quality of the flow through the gas path and compressor efficiency.

Abstract: A power tool and a method of operating a power tool including a motor, a clutch collar including a plurality of settings, a wireless transceiver operable to form a wireless connection with a remote device, and a processor coupled to the clutch collar and the wireless transceiver. The processor receives, via the wireless transceiver, a mapping including a plurality of torque levels corresponding to the plurality of settings. The processor detects that the clutch collar is set to a setting of the plurality of settings. The processor is further determines the torque level for the setting from the mapping and detects, during the operation of the power tool, that a torque of the power tool exceeds the torque level. The processor is also configured to generate an indication that the torque exceeds the torque level. The indication may include flashing a light, ratcheting the motor, and stopping the motor.

Abstract: Magnetic apparatuses and systems for shaping parts are described. One or more magnets can be used to direct a magnetically responsive fluid having magnetically responsive particles around surfaces of a part. The magnetically responsive fluid can include abrasive particles that follow movement of the magnetically responsive fluid across surfaces of the part and remove material from the part until the part takes on a desired shape. The magnetic apparatuses can be configured to provide a rough cut, similar to machining process, and/or a fine cut, similar to polishing or buffing process, to the part.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a honing tool (31) for working several separate bores arranged coaxially in series (17a, 17b, 17c) and with different diameters. The honing tool (31) comprises several cutting bar groups (3, 4, 5) arranged coaxially in series, wherein a cross section formed by radially extendable cutting bars (18) of a cutting bar group (3, 4, 5) differs from the cross section of at leas one other cutting bar group (3, 4, 5). The cutting bar groups (3, 4, 5) are constructed and arranged in such a manner that a through bore (17a, 17c) can be worked during a single work step by at least one first cutting bar group (3, 5) and a stepped bore (17b) can be worked by at least one second cutting bar group (4).
