Abstract: A method of recovering purified partly-hydrolyzed cellulose particles from a composition comprising agglomerated partly-hydrolyzed cellulose particles and an acid, using electrodialysis. The invention addresses the problem of reducing the acid to very low levels while avoiding the high capital and operating costs, high water usage and large filtration surface area or dilution time requirements of the prior art processes. Following dilution, concentration by centrifuging or settling, and/or dialysis of the composition, the composition is treated in an electrodialysis cell to remove ions, such as free sulfate from sulfuric acid. The method may include having an anion exchange resin in the feed compartment of the electrodialysis cell, adding a base to the receiving solution in the electrodialysis cell, and a second step of electrodialysis of the purified partly-hydrolyzed cellulose particles.

Abstract: The invention, belonging to the field of membrane technology, presents a method for the high-throughput preparation of carbon nanotube hollow fiber membranes. This method contains three major steps. Firstly, the pristine carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are added into a mixture of concentrated nitric acid and sulfuric acid, which is then heated at 40˜80° C. for 0.5˜6 hours. Secondly, the surface-functionalized CNTs and polyvinyl butyral (PVB) are dispersed and dissolved, respectively, in organic solvents at a mass ratio of 1:0.2˜1:4˜8 to form homogeneous spinning solution, which is squeezed into water as shell liquid with water as core liquid at a flow rate ratios of 0.5˜5:1 through a spinneret to form CNT/PVB hollow fibers. Finally, the dry fibers are calcinated at 600˜1000 ° C. for 1˜4 hours in absence of oxygen to produce free-standing CNT hollow fiber membranes. The method involved in this invention is simple and highly efficient without needing any templates, expensive apparatuses and chemicals.

Gas bubbles are injected into the draft tube either above or below or alongside the helical impeller or in all three locations. The liquid is drawn into the draft tube with a superficial velocity greater than a substantially uniform terminal ascent velocity of the gas bubbles to allow entrainment of undissolved gas bubbles in the bulk liquid into the liquid being drawn into the draft tube. The gas bubbles are injected with a uniform diameter of between about 10.0 microns and about 1.0 millimeters. The small bubble size enhances the dissolution of the gas into the liquid and also allow the entrainment of the gas into the liquid being drawn into the draft tube.
