Abstract: A wireless communication assembly permits convenient and effective communication between down hole logging and/or data storage tools conveyed via non-conductive wireline and surface equipment, including while such tools are situated within a lubricator, wellhead or other surface equipment. Data acquired by a down hole logging or data storage tool is transmitted to a wireline-conveyed communication assembly, and then wirelessly transmitted to a surface data communication assembly. Thereafter, such data can then be acquired, displayed and/or downloaded via an external data port on said surface data communication assembly using a wired or wireless connection.

Abstract: A downhole tool, surface equipment, and/or remote equipment are utilized to obtain data associated with a subterranean hydrocarbon reservoir, fluid contained therein, and/or fluid obtained therefrom. At least one condition indicating that a density inversion exists in the fluid contained in the reservoir is identified from the data. Molecular sizes of fluid components contained within the reservoir are estimated from the data. A model of the density inversion is generated based on the data and molecular sizes. The density inversion model is utilized to estimate the density inversion amount and depth and time elapsed since the density inversion began to form within the reservoir. A model of a gravity-induced current of the density inversion is generated based on the data and the density inversion amount, depth, and elapsed time.

Abstract: A device for using carbon dioxide originating from the combustion of a byproduct has a preparing unit which is connected to a delivery station for fossil fuels, which has a burner for combusting a byproduct that is released when the fuel is delivered, and an exhaust gas line that is connected to the burner. A depositing device is fluidically connected to the preparing unit via the exhaust gas line, for carbon dioxide. The depositing device is fluidically connected to the delivery station to redeliver fuel via a supply line for carbon dioxide. Such a device allows the production and the subsequent controlled use of carbon dioxide from previously unused byproducts in the production of crude oil. A corresponding method by which carbon dioxide originating from the combustion of a byproduct is used in a controlled manner, in particular as part of a fossil fuel extraction process.

Abstract: A system for controlling valve opening/closing timing that allows an unlocking operation to be reliably performed is configured. When extracting a lock member from a recess, a second control valve is set to an unlock position, a first control valve is set to a predetermined position, and a relative rotation phase is displaced. As a result, the relative rotation phase is displaced in a direction opposite to the direction of displacement by cam average torque from a camshaft. Afterward, by setting the first control valve to a neutral position, the relative rotation phase is displaced by the cam average torque, and when this displacement occurs, a state in which the lock member is separated from an inner wall of the recess is created, thus facilitating extraction of the lock member from the recess.

Abstract: A linear reciprocating engine may include an engine block, a cylinder having combustion chambers at opposing ends, cylinder heads located at an end of the respective combustion chambers, respectively, and a double-faced piston. The engine may further include piston rod portions extending from both faces of the piston through the combustion chambers. The engine may further include an exhaust outlet in a peripheral cylinder wall and elongated channels in the piston rod portions being configured to serve as an intake inlet for gas from a location external to the cylinder. When the piston is in a combustion stage in a first combustion chamber, the piston blocks the exhaust outlet from communicating with the first chamber with the first channel access opening outside the first chamber, while simultaneously the exhaust outlet is in communication with a second combustion chamber with the second channel access opening within the second chamber.

Abstract: In a variable valve mechanism of an internal combustion engine, when a slider is displaced relative to an input member and an output member in an axial direction, the output member turns relative to the input member in a swing direction, whereby a lift of a valve is increased or reduced. The variable valve mechanism is brought into a lift retaining state when the slider is placed in an idle running range located on a reducing direction side with respect to a boundary position. The lift retaining state is a state where when the slider is displaced in the axial direction, the input member and the output member are displaced together with the slider in the axial direction, so that the relative displacement of the slider and the relative turning of the output member do not occur and the lift of the valve is retained.
