  • Patent number: 9574714
Abstract: An adhesive melter and a method for operating the melter enables predictive maintenance of an exhaust air filter used to remove pressurized air flow that delivers solid adhesive particulate from a fill system into the melter. To this end, the fill system repeatedly actuates to refill a receiving space, and a controller monitors a duration of each fill system cycle. When changes in a calculated average duration of a plurality of fill system cycles exceed a maintenance threshold, an alert is emitted at a user interface to prompt maintenance or replacement of the exhaust air filter before a complete shutdown of the fill system is caused by clogging of the exhaust air filter. Consequently, unplanned downtimes caused by clogged exhaust air filters in the adhesive melter can be minimized, regardless of any variable conditions occurring at the melter.

  • Patent number: 9574715
Abstract: A method and system for supplying additional hydrogen from a reservoir of stored hydrogen in a salt cavern to a hydrogen pipeline to assist in meeting customer demand for hydrogen is provided. Contaminants introduced while the stored hydrogen stream is in the salt cavern may cause the crude hydrogen stream to not have the required product purity specification. The stored hydrogen is removed from the salt cavern as a crude hydrogen stream and thereafter diluted with higher purity hydrogen formed from the pipeline to form a hydrogen product stream at or below the product purity specification. The hydrogen product can be formed without removal of any of the contaminants in the crude stream, thereby creating a more cost effective and simplified supply process compared to conventional processes employing a salt cavern for hydrogen supply.

    Abstract: A lens includes a light incident surface and a light output surface. In a coordinate system, the light incident surface satisfies a formula (1): Z r 1 = c 1 ? r 1 2 1 + 1 - r 1 2 ? c 1 2 + u 1 2 ? ( 1 - u 1 2 ) 1 - r 1 2 ? c 1 2 ? ? m = 0 M ? a m ? Q m ? ( u 1 2 ) . c1 is a curvature of the light incident surface. r1 is a distance from the center of the lens to a joint point between the light input surface and a radius which is substantially perpendicular to the central axis of the lens. u1 is a normalized radius of the light incident surface. am represents the aspheric coefficient. Qm is a polynomial of order m and represents that the sum of am is equal to the sum of the root mean square of the slope of the light incident surface.

  • Patent number: 9574739
Abstract: A lens for an LED includes a top face, a bottom face, and a circumferential periphery interconnecting the top and bottom faces. The top face defines a recess therein. A concave wall defines a bottom of the recess. In cross section of the lens, the concave wall consists of two symmetrical curves extending outward and upwardly from a bottom tip of the recess to connect with the top face. Each curve is a part of a hyperbola. The cavity is for receiving an LED therein. The lens further forms a cone-shaped top wall enclosing a top of the cavity. Light emitted from the LED travels through the cone-shaped top wall to strike the concave wall and be reflected thereby to radiate sideward and downwardly. The sideward and downwardly reflected light then is reflected by a reflective coating on a substrate to illuminate upwardly.

Abstract: Devices (100) comprise light sources (1) for producing light into directional ranges (70) and light blockers (10) for blocking the light in parts (71) of the directional ranges (70). The light blockers (10) have inner sides (11) and outer sides (12), and are made of materials having optical indices. Combinations of shapes of the outer sides (12) and the optical indices will reflect the light in the parts (71) of the directional ranges (70) at the outer sides (12), for example back to the light sources (1). The shapes of the outer sides (12) may be saw tooth shapes, the optical indices may be larger than 1.4, total reflection may take place for the light in the parts (71) of the directional ranges (70) when incoming at angles smaller than 40° with sides (14, 15) of saw teeth (13) of the saw tooth shapes. Shapes of the inner sides (11) may correspond with shapes of light output graphs of the light sources (1) in the parts (71) of the directional ranges (70).

Abstract: A laser reflecting has a low transmittance at one or more laser wavelengths while substantially transmitting all other wavelengths in the spectral range of interest, is coated on one or both sides of an absorbing or non-absorbing substrate. A laser reflecting filter on both sides of an absorbing substrate can result in an enhancement of the absorption of laser light by multiple reflections of the laser light in the absorbing substrate. The high transmittance of the laser-reflecting filter at non-laser wavelengths results in a relatively high overall transmittance through the coated substrate. In the specific case of laser reflecting coatings on a lens to protect an eye, this allows a high luminous transmittance and good color discrimination.

The arms are biased to expand laterally outward into an expanded configuration in which the arms engage the tissue in the surgical field with enough force to seat the clip without retracting the tissue. A waveguide illuminator is coupled to the first arm, and has a light input portion, a light output portion, and a light conducting portion extending between the light input portion and the light output portion. Light passes through the waveguide illuminator by total internal reflection, and the waveguide illuminator directs light to the tissue. Methods of using the illuminated clip are also disclosed.

Abstract: A light source, for example a light emitting diode, can emit light and have an associated optical axis. The source can be deployed in applications where it is desirable to have illumination biased laterally relative to the optical axis, such as in a street luminaire where directing light towards a street is beneficial. The source can be coupled to an optic that comprises an inner surface facing the source and an outer surface that is opposite the inner surface. The inner surface can comprise a refractive surface that receives light headed away from the optical axis of the light source, for example opposite the street. The refractive surface can form the received light into a beam. The outer surface of the optic can reflect the beam back across the optical axis, for example so that light headed away from the street is redirected towards the street.
