Patent number: 9586797Abstract: A motorized truck with tiller such as a pallet carrier or forklift truck has a tiller-controlled steerable wheel 14 which is steered by a motor having an associated steering motor controller. The steering motor controller in a normal mode of operation detects movement of the tiller as it is rotated relative to the chassis to steer the truck, and outputs control signals to cause the steering motor to steer the wheel such that it follows the tiller angle with a fixed, predetermined offset (which may be zero or non-zero). In a realignment mode of operation, the controller can change the predetermined angular offset, and the controller can preferably align the wheel with the tiller or with an axis of the chassis. The truck can be maneuvred more easily into and out of tight spaces with the operator and tiller offset to the side of the truck. The tiller can also be offset manually from the wheel by decoupling the tiller and wheel, and thereby changing the predetermined offset for subsequent operation.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 2012Date of Patent: March 7, 2017Inventors: Martin McVicar, Robert Moffett, Mark Whyte

Patent number: 9586837Abstract: Methods are provided for disinfecting water mains using ultraviolet (UV) light. One or more UV light sources are provided and secured to a movable device that moves axially in a pipe. The frequency and intensity of the UV light is determined based on characteristics of the pipe, such as its material and size. The rate at which the movable device moves through the pipe is also determined so that the interior surface of the pipe is properly disinfected. The movable device is remotely caused to move through the pipe.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 2013Date of Patent: March 7, 2017Assignee: AMERICAN WATER WORKS COMPANY, INC.Inventor: Martin L. Robison

Patent number: 9586840Abstract: The disclosed technology includes systems and methods for clustering particles, especially water contaminants, by liquid-phase electric plasma discharge. According to certain implementations, the discharge may be applied continuously, and may be of relatively low power, e.g., a voltage between 300 V and 5000 V and an amperage between 0.1 A and 1 A. The electrodes introducing the electric discharge may be in a point-to-point configuration and with at least one electrode having a large aspect ratio. In some implementations, one or more of the voltage and amperage of the electric discharge, electrode configuration and aspect ratio, and the conductivity of the medium may enable the generation of plasma containing hydroxyl and other radicals. The radicals may catalyze polymerization of the particles, resulting in an increase in particle size and, thus, improved filterability. The polymerization process may continue after the electric discharge is discontinued or removed from influence of the medium.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 2013Date of Patent: March 7, 2017Assignee: Georgia Tech Research CorporationInventors: Jeffery S. Patent number: 9586841Abstract: An electrodialysis process and apparatus is presented for improving the current efficiency of salty water desalination. The process includes reducing the osmotic and the electro-osmotic flow of water from diluate compartments to concentrate compartments, and between electrode compartments and adjacent compartments, by confinement and hydraulic isolation of their contents in constant volume compartments, so that the tendency of waters entering from diluate compartments to concentrate compartments leads to pressure buildup in the concentrate compartments, reducing the transfer of product desalinated water to the concentrate waste.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2014Date of Patent: March 7, 2017Assignee: IONIC SOLUTIONS LTD.Inventor: Azaroghly Yazdanbod
