Abstract: An approach is provided for ranking candidate answers to a natural language question. First contextual information about a user of a mobile device is identified. A prioritization of definitions of terms is determined. Based on the prioritization, a lexicon of the terms is generated. Using mobile-based time series manipulation and pattern recognition and based on historical usage of the mobile device, a location of the user, an environment of the user, and a bodily function of the user, second contextual information is forecasted. Based on a word sense disambiguation of the terms in the lexicon and an adjustment of the prioritization, candidate answers are modified and then ranked. The highest ranked candidate answer is more likely to be a correct answer to the natural language question than the other candidate answers.

One of the techniques includes determining whether a metadata document to be accessed is a global document, if so, accessing the metadata document from a global repository shared amongst tenants of a multi-tenant system, and accessing the metadata document from a tenant repository that is accessible by a tenant of the multi-tenant system when the metadata document is not a global document. The technique futher includes disallowing tenants from directly modifying global metadata to not affect other tenants, but still allow tenants to customize global metadata and store the changes as tenant customization documents in the tenant repository. The tenant repository which can be a database or file system is isolated from other tenants of the multi-tenant system.

Abstract: A method for data storage includes assigning multiple different portions of a given object, which is stored in non-volatile storage, for access by multiple respective software modules running on one or more processors. Storage operations are performed by the software modules in the portions of the given object. Respective local values, which are indicative of most-recent times the storage operations were performed in the given object by the respective software modules, are updated by the software modules. A global value is updated for the given object, by consolidating updates of the local values performed by the software modules.

Abstract: A method for early compression related processing in a file system with offline compression. The method includes receiving a data file in a buffer. A processor detects that at least a portion of a data block of the data file resides in the buffer. A compressibility indication of the data block is determined based on performing at least one compressibility analysis operation on the data block. The compressibility indication of the data block is stored. A background compression task is performed on the data block based on: determining a compression decision for the data block based on the compressibility indication, and compressing the data block based on the compression decision.

Abstract: Systems and methods for searching databases by sound data input are provided herein. A service provider may have a need to make their database(s) searchable through search technology. However, the service provider may not have the resources to implement such search technology. The search technology may allow for search queries using sound data input. The technology described herein provides a solution addressing the service provider's need, by giving a search technology that furnishes search results in a fast, accurate manner. In further embodiments, systems and methods to monetize those search results are also described herein.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for managing file distribution between publishing and subscribing devices are provided. At a transporter system, a publish request for publishing a version of the dataset is received from a publisher device, wherein the publish request has a predefined format that includes an identity of the dataset, an identity of the version of the dataset, and an identity of a location for the version of the dataset. The transporter system updates a registry to associate the dataset with the identity of the dataset, version, and location, and the transporter system automatically publishes the dataset to any subscribers devices that have previously sent subscribe requests for such dataset to the transporter system.

Abstract: A content management system synchronizes content items across client computing systems connected by a network. If a storage allocation for shared content items on a client device is exceeded by the request to add or edit a content item such that it is enlarged, a client application or the host of content management system selects content items to remove from residence on the client device but keep remotely on content management system. Upon removal of the selected content items, the client application creates shadow items, representing the content item but only containing the metadata of the content item. This creates sufficient space while maintaining user access to all synchronized shared content items. When a shadow item is requested by an application running on the client device the client application may approve or deny the request based on process or application access date collected from honeypots saved on the client device.

Abstract: The present application discloses a method and apparatus for processing a file in a distributed system. A specific implementation of the method includes: receiving a file having predetermined identifiers; splitting the file into a plurality of subfiles based on a size of the file, a number of the predetermined identifiers in the file and a number of servers in the distributed system, each of the plurality of subfiles comprising an identical number of the predetermined identifiers; and sending, in response to a file processing request sent by at least one of the servers in the distributed system, the plurality of subfiles to a corresponding server for parallel processing of the file. This implementation improves the processing efficiency of a genetic information file, and implements load balancing.

Abstract: In an embodiment, a system can determine geocoded data from a database of geographic coordinates and metadata. The system correlates metadata, such as invoice data, to geolocation data, such as GPS or cellular data to determine geocoded data. The system further identifies one or more geographic coordinates for one or more location names, which may not have a corresponding metadata entry, by generating clusters of geographic coordinates. The clusters are then matched to one or location names using a matching algorithm. Accordingly, improved geocoded data may be determined.

Abstract: Relevant geospatial data is provided to a portable device. In particular, several activity detection results collected over a period of time, spanning several time intervals, are received, where each activity detection result provides an estimate of the portable device activity, and where the activity detection results indicate at least two different activities. A single predominant activity of the portable device is determined using the activity detection results. Based on the predominant activity, geospatial data is selected and then provided to the portable device.

Abstract: A database engine performs row filtering operations concurrently with performing database object partition maintenance operations. The filtering operations do not incur the high processing costs of database delete or purge operations that would incur per row costs for logging, locking, etc. The partitioning and filtering operations are specified in multiple clauses of a single database language statement. The clauses of the statement are executed concurrently. A method implementation receives a database language statement that comprises a partitioning operation specification as well as a filtering operation specification that includes a logical predicate for determining whether or not to filter-out predicate-matching entries when forming the resulting partitioned target database object. While processing the partitioning operations, the method discards entries taken from the source database object whenever the entry corresponds to the logical predicate.
