    Abstract: A poultry house has a floor with a surface area. Lifter covers substantially the entire surface area of the floor. A platform is located in the nourishment area above the litter and floor, and below the nourishment dispensing device. The platform is preferably comprised of a grate or a series of slats, and preferably extends throughout substantially the entire nourishment area. The platform is constructed with through-holes or slits which are structured to allow liquids, such as, to pass through the platform to the lifter below. However, the through-holes or slits are not so large as to allow the feet of chicken or other poultry from passing there through to make contact with the wet litter below.

    Abstract: A liquid bird feeder provides a liquid container having a sealable top opening and a bottleneck extension at its other end, and a liquid tray having a well adapted to receive the bottleneck extension and at least one feeding port. The sidewall of the well is provided with at least one drain hole and the sidewall of the bottleneck extension with at least one port. The container and bottleneck extension are rotatable within the well to selectively align and misalign the port with the well drain hole to respectively open and close the drain hole upon rotation of the container. In an alternate embodiment, the bottleneck extension is fitted with a collar rotatable with the container. The collar is received in the liquid tray well and includes at least one port. A liquid flow path is formed in the liquid tray for each feeding port to reduce the volume of nectar in the tray at any given time.

    Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for growing filamentous algae are disclosed. An apparatus comprises vertical surfaces such as plates or tubes which are suspended above the fill line of a water tank. Surfaces can have a frosted texture for algal growth. The surfaces are kept moist by pumping water from the tank through spray bars to the surfaces. Sprayed water drips back into the water tank. Algae growing on a surface can be processed into products such as biofuel and glycerin. Aquatic animals such as fish can be grown in a tank. An aquatic animal can generate nitrogenous waste as nutrient for algae, and provide food for human consumption. The amount of harvestable algae produced by an apparatus can exceed the amount produced from other systems of comparable size over comparable durations. An apparatus can also be utilized to scrub CO2.

    Abstract: A system and method for eradicating burrowing rodents uses an internal combustion engine running at high speed and zero mechanical load to convert gasoline and air into pressurized carbon monoxide entrained in an inert gas mixture consisting mostly of nitrogen and water vapor. A heat exchanger cools the exhaust gas and provides it to one or more outputs. Respective hoses are coupled to the outputs, with each hose coupled to an injector tube adapted for insertion into a subterranean tunnel in which a rodent may be present. The engine is preferably mounted on a wheeled tubular frame which may be part of a hand truck or a trailer frame, with the frame serving as both structural member and as heat exchanger. The system pumps gas into the tunnel, replacing the existing atmosphere with oxygen poor, CO rich gas that causes the rodents to succumb to a combination of CO poisoning and hypoxia.

    Abstract: Alexandrian laurel (Danae racemosa L.) is a highly demanded evergreen shrub. However, seed germination often takes up to 12 to 18 months with a germination rate of only about 20%. Also, due to its slow-growth rate, it typically takes up to six years to produce a saleable one-gallon size plant. Germinating seeds in the presence of cytokinins and/or auxins increased in vitro shoot multiplication and seedling quality enhancement. Benzyladenine was found to balance seedling development by simultaneously accelerating shoot growth and slowing down root growth, whereas thidiazuron significantly promoted shoot multiplication and proliferation by producing 5-30 shoots per seed.

    Abstract: A shoulder incision-making apparatus for a poultry carcass according to the present invention is for cutting a shoulder joint section of a poultry carcass, and includes: a fixing jig on which a poultry carcass which is eviscerated and which has leg parts removed is to be placed and fixed; a conveyer forming a conveyance path of the fixing jig and configured to convey the fixing jig along the conveyance path; a first cutter disposed in the conveyance path; and a second cutter disposed in the conveyance path at a downstream side of the first cutter in a conveying direction. The first cutter is configured to make an incision on the shoulder joint section of the poultry carcass, and the second cutter is configured to be inserted into the incision to cut the shoulder joint section.

    Abstract: A method for rapidly cooling poultry carcasses during processing by injecting the carcasses with a composition including water and an antimicrobial agent. The composition may be in slush ice form or liquid form. The antimicrobial agent, such as peroxide, plays a critical role in this method. The antimicrobial agent serves to lower the freezing point of the chilled water of the composition below 32 degrees F., which allows greater heat exchange when the chilled water composition is injected into the warm interior of the carcasses. The antimicrobial agent also prevents bacterial contamination of the carcasses as a result of the possible transfer of bacteria from the exterior surface of the carcasses into the interior of the carcasses during injection.
