Abstract: Reference imagery of dermatological conditions is compiled in a crowd-sourced database (contributed by clinicians and/or the lay public), together with associated diagnosis information. A user later submits a query image to the system (e.g., captured with a smartphone). Image-based derivatives for the query image are determined (e.g., color histograms, FFT-based metrics, etc.), and are compared against similar derivatives computed from the reference imagery. This comparison identifies diseases that are not consistent with the query image, and such information is reported to the user. Depending on the size of the database, and the specificity of the data, 90% or more of candidate conditions may be effectively ruled-out, possibly sparing the user from expensive and painful biopsy procedures, and granting some peace of mind (e.g., knowledge that an emerging pattern of small lesions on a forearm is probably not caused by shingles, bedbugs, malaria or AIDS).

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for operating a physiological monitoring system for determining a physiological parameter of a subject. The physiological system may comprise a pulse oximetry sensor for generating a photoplethysmography (PPG) signal and a gain controller for setting a light detection level. The system may also comprise a filter for filtering the PPG signal. The filter may comprise at least one of filter history and filter coefficients. The system may comprise a processor for determining the power level of light sources of the pulse oximetry sensor and the light detection gain level, and calculating a scaling factor based on the determined power level and the light detection gain level. The processor may also be used for scaling one or more of the filter history and filter coefficients based on the scaling factor, and determining at least one physiological parameter based on the filtered PPG signal.

Abstract: A device and method is provided for the detection of diabetes in a person using pulse palpation signals. The pulse palpation signal is captured from the radial artery of the person using a photo-plethysmograph (PPG) sensor. The PPG signal is then preprocessed by a processor. The preprocessed PPG signal is then analyzed by the processor to detect the peak in the PPG signal. The detected peaks are used to extract a first set of feature parameters. The first of feature parameters are compared with a second set of feature parameters, wherein the second set of feature parameters are extracted from the control group of individuals. Based on the comparison it is detected that the person is one of in normal condition, pre-diabetic condition or a diabetic condition. According to another embodiment, the invention also provides a method to determine the severity index and progression risk of diabetes in the person.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure are directed to an apparatus comprising a scale and external circuitry. The scale includes a platform, data-procurement circuitry to engage the user with electrical signals and collect signals indicative of the user's identity and cardio-physiological measurements while the user is standing on the platform, processing circuitry to process data obtained by the data-procurement circuitry while the user is standing on the platform and therefrom generate cardio-related physiologic data corresponding to the collected signals, and an output circuit. The output circuit sends user data, including data indicative of the user's identity and the generated cardio-related physiologic data, for reception at external circuitry. The external circuitry receives the user data, validates the cardio-related physiologic data as concerning the user associated with a patient profile, and updates the patient profile using the generated cardio-related physiologic data.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a compression and shielding device (10) for X-ray mammography, an X-ray mammography system, and a method for X-ray mammography. The compression and shielding device (10) for X-ray mammography comprises a compression element (11), and a shielding (12). The compression element (11) is arranged to compress a part of the breast to be examined. The shielding (12) is to be arranged between an X-ray source (2) and the compression element (11) to shield an uncompressed part of the breast from the X-ray radiation. The shielding (12) is formed to allow the direction of X-ray radiation to the compressed part of the breast and to keep an uncompressed part of the breast uncovered.

Abstract: An apparatus for cone beam computed tomography of an extremity has a digital radiation detector and a first device to move the detector along a circular detector path extending so that the detector moves both at least partially around a first extremity of the patient and between the first extremity and a second, adjacent extremity. The detector path has radius R1 sufficient to position the extremity approximately centered in the detector path. There is a radiation source with a second device to move the source along a concentric circular source path having a radius R2 greater than radius R1, radius R2 sufficiently long to allow adequate radiation exposure of the first extremity for an image capture by the detector. A first circumferential gap in the source path allows the second extremity to be positioned in the first circumferential gap during image capture.

Abstract: Stereo projections of breast tissue to be examined are dynamically generated with the aid of an x-ray projection machine. An x-ray source of the x-ray projection machine is moved to a start position. Thereupon, an x-ray projection recording is started at the start position and the x-ray projection recording is performed while the x-ray source moves to a finish position. The position of the x-ray focus is updated during the x-ray projection recording so that a change in position of the x-ray focus is compensated for at least in part, preferably in full. The x-ray projection recording is terminated when the finish position is reached. A method for ascertaining a position of breast tissue to be examined and an automated method for planning a biopsy are described. An x-ray source control device and an automated stereotactic biopsy machine are described.
