Abstract: A device for breaking glass articles, such as bottles, the device comprising an inlet to receive an article. A conduit links the inlet with a glass-breaking chamber, and the chamber houses a glass-breaking member, said glass-breaking member being rotatably mounted for rotation in a vertical plane, and to impact a bottle as a bottle enters the chamber. A motor is linked via a horizontally rotating axle to rotate the glass-breaking member. An obliquely mounted crusher plate is located such that as the glass-breaking member rotates and impacts a glass article, which is forced against the crusher plate by the glass-breaking member to aid breakage of a glass article. A collector is included in which broken glass is retained ready for removal from the device. An intermediate collector is also included to temporarily retain broken glass, including a release valve allowing broken glass to pass from the intermediate collector to the collector, via an aperture therebetween.

Abstract: A system for eliminating unexploded ordnance from a mixture. The system includes a separation plant, including a crusher, a magnetic separation station, and a screen plant. The crusher reduces the size of pieces in the mixture, the magnetic separator separates pieces containing a significant amount of ferrous metal, and the screen separates small pieces from larger pieces. The fine output of the screen is composed of pieces that are sufficiently small to pose little hazard; they may be further subjected to heat treatment. Large pieces containing ferrous metal, or large pieces containing nonferrous metal, may be explosive and are transported, using an unmanned machine, to an inspection plant where they are sorted and where any unexploded ordnance is identified and disposed of. The separation plant is sufficiently distant from the inspection plant that an explosion at the separation plant does not pose a hazard to personnel at the inspection plant.

Abstract: This invention is aimed at a problem arising in the oil and gas industry, namely disposal of tubing after it has reached ‘end-of-life’. Currently, there is no good way of efficiently reclaiming coil tubing which is no longer useful in the oilfield for production or drilling-related purposes. Instead the tubing is typically stored as junk, or shipped on reels to foundries for remanufacturing. This invention aims to assist in the recycling or reclamation of end-of-life coiled tubing by safely and efficiently turning the tubulars into compact chips or shreds, and may be helpful in the recycling and reclamation of other types of tubing, jointed pipe, pipeline and similar conduit materials.

The downstream pump has an inlet higher in level than an outlet of the upstream pump and higher in level than an outlet of the filter. That is, the downstream pump is disposed higher in level than the upstream pump and the filter. Accordingly, this allows a processing liquid to flow upward. Even when air bubbles are generated in the processing liquid, buoyancy causes the air bubbles to move upward in the processing liquid flow path and collect the air bubbles on a downstream side. Consequently, the air bubbles are readily vented from the processing liquid flow path.

Abstract: A spray gun for a high-pressure cleaning appliance is provided, with a gun casing, in which is arranged a valve, which has a through duct which extends from a valve inlet to a valve outlet, and has a closure body which, in a closed position, bears in a fluid-tight manner against a valve seat and which is adapted to be moved, with the aid of a hand lever mechanically coupled to the closure body, into an open position spaced apart from the valve seat, and with an electric apparatus which has an electric display device and at least one battery. The electric apparatus has an electric casing which is sealed against sprayed water and forms a sub-unit adapted to be handled independently, wherein all of the current-carrying components of the spray gun are arranged in the electric casing and are separated galvanically from the remaining components of the spray gun.

Abstract: A closet auger includes an elongated casing member extending along an axis, and an elongated drive member telescopically received in the casing member and movable between an extended position and a retracted position relative to the casing member along the axis. The drive member is rotatable relative to the casing member about the axis. The closet auger further includes a flexible cable having an end removably connectable to the drive member in first and second configurations, where a length of the flexible cable is retracted within or extended from the drive member, respectively. A cable retention assembly is supported by the casing member and selectively engageable with the flexible cable to inhibit movement of the flexible cable relative to the casing member. The drive member is movable relative to the flexible cable when the cable retention assembly engages the flexible cable to change between the first and second configurations.

A system for controlling a fume hood may include an image capture sensor, a configurator and a controller. The image capture sensor may be positioned to have a field of view that includes at least a portion of a fume hood opening, and may be configured to capture an image that includes at least part of the fume hood opening and/or a person working at the hood. The controller may then provide a control signal to a ventilation device for providing a desired airflow in the fume hood. The control signal may depending on the current size of the fume hood opening as captured by the image capture sensor.

Abstract: A manufactured composite comprising synthetic turf and impermeable geomembrane is used in a single-layer capping system as the single layer to provide permanent, impermeable and functional aesthetic cover for land reclamation. During installation of composite pieces at a job site, an edge portion of a tufted section of a second composite piece is overlaid onto an edge untufted section of the first composite piece already laid and anchored over foundation soil to form a reinforced overlapping seam, through which the two composite pieces are physically and permanently joined together. As composite pieces are joined together, the continuity of synthetic grass and the continuity of impermeability are extended and realized over the entire site to form permanent, impermeable and functional aesthetic cover for land reclamation.

Abstract: The invention is intended for integrated decontamination of soils contaminated with mercury (amalgam) or/and radionuclides. Method for soil decontamination includes preparation of pulp by mixing soils with water at the soil sampling point with separation of fraction with fragments more than 100 mm in the pulp preparation module, disintegration of pulp and soil aggregates in the disintegration module with separation of plants residues and fraction with fragments more than 10 mm. Pulp thickening. In the hydroclassification module the pulp is separated into sand and fine particle fractions, the fine particle fraction goes to the dehydration module, designed as a concentrator, where it is thickened and dehydrated for further disposal. If mercury and amalgam are present in soils they are separated in the thickening module.

Abstract: A method for treating contaminated water or other contaminated media has been developed. Bioremediation enhancing agents (BEAs) such as yeast metabolites (YM) and other yeast derived products are used to facilitate microbial treatment of the contaminated material. Polysaccharides are also an effective BEA when used alone or in combination with the yeast derived products. The BEAs may work with microbes and electron donors to improve the rate of contaminant degradation and to increase the efficiency of electron donor utilization. A number of novel electron donors are also disclosed.

Abstract: [Problem] In a small-size rolling mill or a roll press machine, to provide a hydraulic screw-down device compatible with the plate thickness accuracy without using a hydraulic control servo valve. [Means for Solution]A hydraulic screw-down device that is comprised of a screw to move a piston arranged in a booster cylinder back and forth, and a motor that gives rotational force to the screw controlling freely the rotational angle of the screw so as to move the piston to the purpose position. A screw-down cylinder connected with the booster cylinder through piping makes a ram in the screw-down cylinder move vertically by the move of oil caused by the movement of the piston in the booster cylinder and thereby enables push-up and push-down of the mill roll.

The working arms are driven by link arms which are acted on by a translational drive. There is versatile three-point bending caused by three die points, two on the working arms and one on the die support shaft. The working arm drive includes a translational component which extends through the die support shaft, and which is connected to the link arms. This achieves excellent symmetry and compactness.
