Abstract: Motion-related, information-indicating systems for football generate and present flight relevant information of a thrown football. These systems include a measuring device and an indicating device. In one embodiment, the system measures the spin speed of a football using a gyro. If the spin speed is higher than a preset value, then an LED light on the football is tuned on. A quarterback assesses his spin speed by whether the LED light is on or off. In another embodiment, the indicating device is an LED light positioned on a ring worn by the quarterback. A transmitter/receiver pair transfers signals from the thrown football to the ring. In another embodiment, the system measures the acceleration of a football using an accelerometer. Further the system indicates the acceleration value on an LCD display monitor positioned on the ground. A quarterback checks the LCD display to access the strength of his throw.

Abstract: The invention consists of a codification and cueing system for the optimization of adversarial or cooperative interactions between human actors engaged in sports and other activities. The system uses measurements from motion sensors to identify key events in the activity and participant's behavior to provide real-time cues to help the actors perform as well as train. The system is illustrated for a tennis application. The codification describes the players' interactions based on court events, such as the ball's trajectory relative to the court, and player behavioral events, such as the stroke phases and court movements. The cueing method can be implemented using different subsets of such events. In its simplest implementation, timing cues are obtained from the stroke backswing initiation, forward swing initiation and impact of the ball on the racket. Following the detection of these events, a signal is transmitted to the adversary where it is used to generate auditory, visual and/or haptic stimuli.

Abstract: One variation of a method for manipulating virtual objects within a virtual game environment includes: at a game console, initializing a first virtual game environment in an instance of a first electronic game; rendering a prompt to link a physical gamepiece to a virtual object within the first electronic game; in response to placement of a physical object over the display of the game console at a first time, accessing an unique identifier from the physical object, confirming permission to link the physical object to the virtual object based on the unique identifier and a characteristic of the virtual object, and linking the unique identifier to the virtual object; and, at a second time, detecting placement of the physical object at a second position over the display and rendering a graphical representation of the virtual object on a second region of the display coinciding with the second position.

Abstract: A lens assembly, related methods and constituent optical elements are described. The assembly may be used to direct and focus light for various applications. In one instance, the lens assembly is used in conjunction with one or more sources of light such as projected images or video as part of a virtual reality system. The lens assembly includes two or more optical elements arranged to receive light or direct light through different spatial regions of the assembly at different focal powers corresponding to a first user viewing zone and a second user viewing zone. In one instance, the first user viewing zone is a peripheral viewing zone and the second viewing zone is a primary or non-peripheral viewing zone (or vice versa).

Abstract: In a communication system including a server (1) and a plurality of communication terminals (2) capable of communication with the server (1), based on a variety of parameters indicating the status of a space formed within a game playable by the user of each communication terminal (2) over the communication system, the server (1) transmits advisory information (132), which suggests the next action for the space, to the communication terminal (2). The communication terminal (2) displays a screen including the received. advisory information (132).

Abstract: A method of adjusting a field of view of a user for a head mounted display (HMD) includes defining a virtual camera for specifying an image of the field of view in a virtual space. In response to updating an image of the field of view by changing a position of the virtual camera without synchronization with the movement of the HMD, the position of the virtual camera is moved in a movement direction of a player object to move the player object into a predetermined range of the field of view. The field of view is sectioned into a non-tracking region defined by the predetermined range, a near tracking region, and a far tracking region. A relief region is between the non-tracking region and the far tracking region. Movement of the player object is based on a location of the player object within the field-of view region.
