Abstract: Overlaying a sonar image over a chart at a corresponding location can provide a beneficial and easy to understand view of the underwater environment for a user. However, in some cases, the watercraft may be close to a boundary of the body of water when the sonar data is gathered. In such a scenario, inaccurate sonar returns or preset display distances of the sonar image can cause the resulting sonar image to be displayed over the boundary and covering land. This can be confusing and can be difficult to decipher. Embodiments of the present invention provide systems and methods for cropping the sonar image for presentation over the chart such that no portion of the image extends beyond the boundary line of the body of water. This creates a smooth and easy to read sonar image/chart display.

Abstract: Embodiments relate to characterizing underwater turbulence. Initially, multispectral laser light (MLL) is generated and then converted to output laser light (OLL). The OLL is received at a polarization rotator that causes the OLL to be emitted in one of multiple modes of polarization. Next, the OLL is directed toward a target medium, where the OLL causes backscattered light to be emitted from the target medium. While using the polarization rotator to switch between the multiple modes of polarization, Stokes parameters of the backscattered light are detected and then used to characterize the underwater turbulence of the target medium.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, subsurface ray directions in beam migration or subsurface wave propagation directions in reverse time migrations are used to obtain additional Specular Filter (SF) and Dip Oriented Partial Imaging (DOPI) images. SF migration applies a specular imaging condition during migration with a pre-specified subsurface dip field. It boosts the S/N ratio in both images and gathers, by effectively removing migration noise. DOPI images are produced by decomposing a standard migration image according to subsurface dip inclination or/and dip azimuth groups, providing various views of the subsurface image. Both SF and DOPI migration images can supply valuable additional information compared to a standard migration image, and they can be efficiently generated during migration.

Abstract: Methods for determining oil-water contact positions and water zone resistivities are provided. In one example, the method may involve performing a 1D inversion on data collected by a resistivity logging tool. Further, the method may involve scanning a resistivity profile of a reservoir generated by the 1D inversion for a boundary position below the resistivity logging tool. Furthermore, the method may involve applying a local residual weighted average on the boundary position to generate an initial estimation of an oil-water contact position and inverting the initial estimation of the oil-water contact to generate water zone resistivity and a modified oil-water contact position. Additionally, the method may involve miming a smoothing local post-processing operation to generate a layered model and performing a 2D inversion on the layered model.

Programmatic tools are provided to assist an operator in analyzing contents of a tanker, container or vehicle. Manifest data is automatically imported into the system for each shipment, thereby helping security personnel to quickly determine container contents. In case of a mismatch between container contents shown by manifest data and the contents as ascertained from the scanning system, the container or vehicle may be withheld for further inspection.

The sensor includes an internal reflection window for contacting with the fluid. A mid-infrared light source directs a beam of mid-infrared radiation into the window and the beam is internal reflected at an interface between the window and the fluid. The reflected beam is passed through three narrow bandpass filters which preferentially transmit mid-infrared radiation over bands of wavelengths corresponding to absorbance peaks of water, oil and CO2.

Abstract: A sensor is provided for monitoring cement. An internal reflection is contacted with the cement and a mid-infrared light source directs a beam of mid-infrared radiation into said window for attenuated internal reflection at an interface between the window and the cement. The reflected infrared radiation is passed through a first narrow bandpass filter that preferentially transmits mid-infrared radiation over a band of wavelengths corresponding to an absorbance peak of a species associated with the cement to filter internally reflected mid-infrared radiation received from the window. An infrared detector detects filtered mid-infrared radiation transmitted through the first filter and a processor measures the intensity of the detected mid-infrared radiation transmitted through the first filter, and determines therefrom an amount of the species associated with the cement.

Abstract: Systems and methods for attenuating vibrations in marine seismic equipment involve a vessel towing a seismic streamer having a plurality of seismic receivers. The seismic streamer is connected to the vessel by a front-end and a damper is coupled to the front-end. A vibration on the front-end is detected and a damper response to the detected vibration on the front-end is then determined. The damper is actively adjusted based on the damper response.
