Publication number: 20170322609Abstract: A system may implement a method for determining the operating capability of a power supply based on multiple environmental factors. Information about environmental factors may be obtained from sensors in the power supply or received from a management controller. These environmental factors may include temperature, line voltage, backpressure, or altitude. Publication number: 20170322614Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and methods for improved power management techniques. An apparatus may include a display control unit, a communication fabric, a memory controller, a memory cache, and a memory. When the memory is power-gated, and the display control unit needs to fetch pixel data, the display control unit may send a wake-up signal to the memory before sending a wake-up signal to the communication fabric. The display control unit may then issue the pixel fetch request later. Additionally, if the display control unit determines that the pixel data has a high probability of being cached, then the display control unit may not send a wake-up signal to the memory, and the display control unit may issue the request earlier. More generally, the display control unit may send wake-up signals to multiple components in a manner which accounts for the wake-up latency of each component.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 9, 2016Publication date: November 9, 2017Inventors: Peter F. Publication number: 20170322615Abstract: It is an object to enable a request received from an outside to be automatically processed immediately before shifting to a power saving state such as a suspend state. On the way of a shift from a normal state to the suspend state and in a state where the shift cannot be interrupted, when a predetermined request such as a print job is received from an external interface, an MFP reserves a return to the normal state by turning on a wake-up reservation flag and continues a suspend process. When shifting to the suspend state, if the wake-up reservation flag is ON, a power supply control unit performs a return (resume) to the normal state even if no wake-up factor occurs.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 21, 2017Publication date: November 9, 2017Inventor: Kenji Hara

Different low-power policy is applied to different low-power techniques, such as the DVFS, the CPU hot-plug, and the task migration. In another novel aspect, the device obtains one or more user-defined policy for each corresponding low-power technique. The selection of each low-power policy is further based on its corresponding user-defined policy. In one embodiment, the user-defined DVFS policy includes power policy, performance policy, and DVFS-balanced policy.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 6, 2016Publication date: November 9, 2017Inventors: Kuo-Su Hsiao, Yen-Lin Lee, Shih-Yen Chiu, Jia-Ming Chen, Mark Shane Peng, Ya-Ting Chang

Publication number: 20170322617Abstract: Voltage regulation of processor sub-domains supplied by a same voltage domain power supply rail. Voltage to certain logic units within the voltage domain may be reduced relative to other logic units of the voltage domain, reducing idle time at high power. In an embodiment, a first voltage-regulated sub-domain includes at least one execution unit (EU) while a second voltage-regulated sub-domain includes at least one texture sampler to provide flexibility in setting the graphics core power-performance point beyond modulating active EU count through power domain (gating) control. In embodiments, a sub-domain voltage is regulated by an on-chip DLDO for fast voltage switching. Clock frequency and sub-domain voltage may be switched faster than the voltage of the voltage domain supply rail, permitting a more finely grained power management that can be responsive to EU workload demand.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 18, 2017Publication date: November 9, 2017Inventors: Subramaniam Maiyuran, Muhammad M. Publication number: 20170322620Abstract: A polling system and method is provided for enabling a user to create polls that are posted on a microblogging website and that can be answered on the microblogging website. The method includes obtaining the user's login information for the microblogging system. The user is able to create a poll that includes a question. A microblog post is generated for the poll. The microblog post is sent to the microblogging system to post on a website. Other users on the microblogging system are able to respond to the poll within the microblogging system by replying to the user's microblog post with another post that includes an answer choice for the poll. The microblogging system is queried for posts directed to the user (e.g., reply posts to the user). A second microblog post is created with poll results and sent to the microblogging system to post on the website.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 24, 2017Publication date: November 9, 2017Inventor: Michael David Schmitz

COMBINING GAZE INPUT AND TOUCH SURFACE INPUT FOR USER INTERFACES IN AUGMENTED AND/OR VIRTUAL REALITY
Publication number: 20170322623Abstract: In a virtual reality system, an optical tracking device may detect and track a user's eye gaze direction and/or movement, and/or sensors may detect and track a user's head gaze direction and/or movement, relative to virtual user interfaces displayed in a virtual environment. A processor may process the detected gaze direction and/or movement as a user input, and may translate the user input into a corresponding interaction in the virtual environment. Gaze directed swipes on a virtual keyboard displayed in the virtual environment may be detected and tracked, and translated into a corresponding text input, either alone or together with user input(s) received by the controller. The user may also interact with other types of virtual interfaces in the virtual environment using gaze direction and movement to provide an input, either alone or together with a controller input.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 21, 2016Publication date: November 9, 2017Inventors: Chris McKenzie, Chun Yat Frank Li, Hayes S.
