Abstract: A method and apparatus for estimating the frequency of a dominant periodic component in an input signal by modelling the input signal using auto-regressive models of several different orders to generate candidate frequencies for the periodic component, generating synthetic sinusoidal signals of each of the candidate frequencies, and calculating the cross-correlation of the synthetic signals with the original signal. The frequency of whichever of the synthetic signals has the highest cross-correlation with the original signal is taken as the estimate of the frequency for the dominant periodic component of the input signal. The method may be applied to any noisy signal which has a suspected periodic component, for example physiological signals such as photoplethysmogram signals, and in the estimation of heart rate and breathing rate from such physiological signals.

Abstract: An adaptive real-time radial k-space sampling trajectory (ARKS) can respond to a physiologic feedback signal to reduce motion effects and ensure sampling uniformity. In this adaptive k-space sampling strategy, the most recent signals from an ECG waveform can be continuously matched to the previous signal history, new radial k-space locations c were determined, and these MR signals combined using multi-shot or single-shot radial acquisition schemes.

Abstract: The invention relates to a computed tomography system (30). Several sets of spectral projections, which correspond to different positions of a radiation source (2) along a rotation axis (R), are decomposed into first projections being indicative of a contrast agent and second projections being not indicative of the contrast agent. An image is generated by a) determining for each first projection a contrast value being indicative of a total amount of contrast agent and scaling the first projections such that for different first projections of a same set the same contrast value is determined, and reconstructing an image based on the scaled first projections, and/or b) reconstructing for the different sets first images, scaling the first images such that they have a same intensity in overlap regions and combining the scaled first images. Thus, different contrast agent amounts can be balanced, thereby allowing for an improved image quality.

Abstract: Systems and process are provided to make X-ray radiographs sufficiently quantitative and standardized for bone and other biological material or non-biologic material density evaluations. The X-ray radiograph methodology and system provide a cost effective diagnostic tool that may be used with existing X-ray radiography sources already present in many clinics and hospitals to ultimately produce large volumes of scientifically valid data and useful diagnostic and prognostic information. A calibration bar is added to a conventional X-ray film cartridge and images thereof subsequently incorporated into radiographs for interpretation or a cartridge is designed to integrate a calibration function. The calibration standard affords a standard against which material density is measured. A software program is provided to interpret tissue densities (including bone) to ultimately identify values compared to preselected thresholds.
