Abstract: An active exit system may include one or more active exit signs, each exit sign having at least one sensor, a display, and a transceiver. Each active exit sign monitors building environmental conditions, monitors the locations of users and objects within the building, and assists in location services during normal operation. The exit signs transmit a dynamic exit plan to a user's electronic device based on the user's location. In response to sensing an emergency event, the exit sign transmits an emergency signal to the user's electronic device and updates a user's exit plan as needed based on the location of the emergency event. The exit sign also transmits user location information to emergency responders.

Abstract: A home security system includes a home security system that may be positioned in a home. Thus, the home security system may detect an intruder. The home security system selectively generates an alarm sequence. An alarm unit is provided and the alarm unit may be positioned in the home. The alarm unit is electrically coupled to the home security system and the alarm unit includes an array of speakers. Each of the speakers is positioned adjacent to an associated one of the motion sensors. Each of the speakers selectively emits an audible alarm when the home security system generates the alarm sequence. Each of the speakers selectively emits the audible alarm when the associated motion sensor detects motion. Thus, each of the speakers creates the illusion of the audible alarm following the intruder through the home.

Abstract: An entry sensor, which supports either wireless or wired operation, facilitates installation and is adjustable for gaps between a building entry barrier such as a door or window and the surrounding frame. The sensor, which may be implemented as a single piece design, includes an adjustment mechanism that enables an installer to vary the extension of the sensor to match the actual gap so that the sensor properly secures the building entry when closed. The sensor includes a detector that determines the state of a switch that is responsive to the movement of a plunger mechanism, where the state is indicative whether the building entry barrier is opened or closed, and that may determine whether the sensor is tampered with. The sensor also may facilitate battery replacement that protects the associated circuitry during the replacement.

Abstract: A sensor data stream is provided consisting of feature vectors acquired by sensors of rotating equipment, similar feature vectors are aggregated in microclusters. For newly arriving feature vectors, a correlation distance measure between the new feature vector and each microcluster is calculated. If there is no microcluster in range, then a new microcluster is created. Otherwise, the feature vector is assigned to the best fitting microcluster, and the necessary statistical information is incorporated into the aggregation contained in the microcluster. In other words, similar feature vectors are aggregated in the same microclusters. The microclusters thus provide a generic summary structure that captures the necessary statistical information of the incorporated feature vectors. At the same time, the loss of accuracy is quite small. Clustering the sensor data stream with microclusters has the benefit that the computational complexity can be reduced significantly.

If at least one performance parameter exceeds a performance limitation, then a first alert is generated and output.

Abstract: Systems and methods of the present invention are provided to generate a plurality of flight trajectories that do not conflict with other aircraft in a local area. Interventions by an air traffic control system help prevent collisions between aircraft, but these interventions can also cause an aircraft to substantially deviate from the pilot's intended flight trajectory, which burns fuels, wastes time, etc. Systems and methods of the present invention can assign a standard avoidance interval to other aircraft in the area such that a pilot's aircraft does not receive an intervention by an air traffic control system. Systems and methods of the present invention also generate a plurality of conflict-free flight trajectories such that a pilot or an automated system may select the most desirable flight trajectory for fuel efficiency, speed, and other operational considerations, etc.

Abstract: A screen overlay for a personal electronic device coupled with an educational application launched on the device provides a work surface for engaging in fluidic based chemistry experiments while shielding the device from the liquid used for the experiments. The screen overlay has liquid encapsulating regions for retention of a pooled liquid deposited on the overlay, and is transmissive of touch signals to a touch screen on the device. An educational application executing on the device renders predetermined regions on the device display that are coordinated with the fluid retention regions. A liquid deposition vessel such as a dropper has a conductive outer surface for engaging a user's grasp, and a wire or conductor is adapted to extend through the pooled liquid for contact with the screen overlay. The screen overlay is transmissive of capacitance signals emanating from the user for indicating fluidic presence to the educational application on the device.

Abstract: A health and fitness management system that employs an algorithm to determine suggested recommended actions for a user to improve their health and fitness. The system obtains a user's weight from a scale. The user is never informed of their weight. Other data can be collected and included when calculating a health index number. Base line data, such as age, ideal age, initial weight, current weight, ideal weight, etc. can be considered in the algorithm. Examples include the user's environment, sleep habits, exercise routines, medical records, and the like. The health index number is used to determine recommended actions, which can include changes to environments, routines, activities, etc. Data collection, the algorithm, and other features of the system can be provided by an Application operating on a portable computing device. Features of the portable computing device can be employed to automatically acquire data for the algorithm.

In one example, a method is used for providing a translated content item and a plurality of actionable options. The method can include generating a base user knowledge level of medical terminology for a user and generating a translated content item having a plurality of translated medical terms, wherein the plurality of translated medical terms are generated based at least in part on the base user knowledge level. The method can further include generating a question to verify user understanding of the translated content item and updating the base user knowledge level of medical terminology based on a response to the question.

Abstract: Recognizing that an event or situation has occurred or is about to occur by detecting physical and/or mental changes, such as becoming tense and changes to thoughts, behavior, language, or pace of the body/mind. Delaying any immediate reactions that are considered in response to the event. Reciting the emotions that the event is causing and the triggers for those emotions. Reciting and processing a few replacement thoughts related to the event, emotions, and/or triggers. Visualizing a successful outcome or serene place. Taking physical actions (e.g., deep and slow breaths). The replacement thoughts help control emotions and return an individual to their desired state (e.g., where they perform optimally). The individual should then refocus on what they were doing before the event occurred and handle it without the impact the emotions caused. Adjustments should be made to process the handling of the individual's emotions as required.

Abstract: A system to assist users with the completion of tasks in a wellness program itinerary. The system assists users in completing tasks by recommending a controlled number of tasks for a user to perform in a next task period. The system determines the number of tasks to recommend by computing a pace that would enable the user to complete all wellness programs in the itinerary within a recommended time period. The system determines which tasks to recommend to the user based on several factors, such as a user state and user environment. The user environment is based on the location of the user, and may include the weather and surrounding landmarks at the location.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to an electronic device for compensating for a visual impairment. The electronic device comprises a display to display a graphical user interface to a user and an input port to receive a request for modifying the graphical user interface to compensate for a visual impairment of the user. The device further comprises a processor to modify the graphical user interface to compensate for a visual impairment of the user by replicating an optical effect of one or more optical lenses. A visually impaired user can operate the device because the processor modifies the interface to compensate for the visual impairment. Without the modification of the interface, it would be difficult for the user to operate the device because the visual impairment causes the interface to appear blurred.
