  • Patent number: 9863529
Abstract: A method for controlling a shift process of an automatic gearbox for a vehicle with an internal combustion engine as its engine, including specifying a shift strategy in a controller, by continuously predictively determining the behaviour of the engine following any shift process into a target gear on the basis of a current detected vehicle dynamic value, a current detected vehicle specific actual value, and/or a current detected engine specific actual value. The prediction results are taken into account and adapted shift thresholds are determined and specified as upshift thresholds or downshift thresholds for a fuel efficient shift. A control command for a corresponding automatic shift process is output after exceeding a shift threshold. The current temperature of at least one component of the engine exhaust system is taken into account during the specification of an adapted shift threshold.

  • Patent number: 9863535
Abstract: A gasket for providing a gas and fluid tight between parts of an internal combustion engine, for example around a combustion chamber opening, is provided. The gasket includes a functional layer with a full embossment spaced from the combustion chamber opening. A stopper layer is attached to the functional layer adjacent the combustion chamber opening. After attaching the stopper layer to the functional layer, half embossments are simultaneously formed in the functional layer and the stopper layer adjacent the combustion chamber opening. The aligned half embossments are together referred to as a half-stop. The half-stop maintains the load on the stopper layer, limits compression on the full embossment, and protects the full embossment from combustion gases when the gasket is compressed between two parts of the internal combustion engine.

Abstract: A hopper tee for redirecting the flow of material from one passage to another passage includes a radius providing a transition between the passages. A port at the exterior of the radius includes an upwardly-open cavity having a bottom wall disposed within the radius and forming a sacrificial wall extending between the bottom wall and the inner surface of the radius. The cavity provides an indication that material moving through the tee has worn the wall of the radius by the creation of a passage between the interior of the tee and the cavity and expelling material through the passage to the exterior of the tee. A plug may be secured within the cavity allowing a user to continue to use the tee until the tee is rotated or replaced. The radius may include a thickened wall for providing added structural support and sacrificial material.
