The switching unit in communication with the FESD and the pump selectively changes modes of operation of the pump. The pump attached to the footwear pumps fluid into and exhausts fluid from a cavity of the footwear. A feed pipe of the fluid diffuser connected to the pump, within the cavity of the footwear, transfers the fluid pumped from the pump to the cavity of the footwear during a pump mode and transfers the fluid in the cavity of the footwear to an ambient environment external to the footwear during an exhaust mode for ventilating the footwear.

Abstract: Systems and devices are described for creating a more effective mechanical ventilation system for footwear. For example, a mechanical ventilation system can include an air reservoir that is almost as large as the entire shoe under the footwear's foot bed. In some examples, the air reservoir can be connected to an area that includes a foot of a user in the footwear. The air reservoir can be compressed using a movable part that circulates air in the footwear with every step. The movable part can be relatively small, extending into the air reservoir, and able to compress and inflate the air reservoir. Movement of the movable part can cause a large effective compressible area of the air reservoir to release fresh air near the toes of a foot to flush stale air out of the footwear.

Abstract: An air cushion shoe device installed in a shoe comprises an air cushion assembly which includes a rear pressing portion, a conduit, and a plurality of gasbags. One end of the conduit is fluidly communicated with the rear pressing portion and the other end thereof has a plurality of branches whose quantity is corresponding to the one of the gasbags. Each branch is fluidly communicated with the corresponding gasbag. A check valve is arranged between the conduit and the branches. An air hole of the conduit is located between the rear pressing portion and the check valve. When the rear pressing portion is pressed downwardly, the air received in the rear pressing portion is extruded through the conduit, the check valve, and each gasbag to each branch so that each gasbag is filled with the air to reduce the impact generated between a foot and a ground.

Abstract: Various configurations of Lace Ratchet Device (LRD) enables easy lace fastening and release. The LRD has two positions: “active” and “inactive”. In the active position the device works as a lace ratchet i.e. allowing the lace to be pulled forwards but blocks any lace motion backwards. After fastening the lace remains fastened until the LRD is switched into inactive position by pressing a lever. Each LRD has a turning gate with front end with sharp edge, rotatably installed in a channel. A preloaded helical torque spring keeps the LRD in active position when the lever is not pressed. Unlike prevalent lace fasteners with serrated surfaces, which cause accelerated lace wear, LRD's smooth front edge side and channel surfaces minimize lace wear. Parallel and triangular configurations of LRD pairs facilitates lace fastening of footwear, serving as “Ratchet Buckles”. Single LRDs can be used for fastening of garments and other objects.
