Publication number: 20180020996Abstract: Improved system and method of X-ray laser microscopy that combines information obtained from both X-ray diffraction and X-ray imaging methods. The sample is placed in an ultra-cold, ultra-low pressure vacuum chamber, and exposed to brief bursts of coherent X-ray illumination further concentrated using X-ray mirrors and pinhole collimation methods. Higher resolution data from a sample is obtained using hard X-ray lasers, such as free electron X-ray lasers, and X-ray diffraction methods. Lower resolution data from the same sample can be obtained using any of hard or soft X-ray laser sources, and X-ray imaging methods employing nanoscale etched zone plate technology. In some embodiments both diffraction and imaging data can be obtained simultaneously. Data from both sources are combined to create a more complete representation of the sample. Methods to further improve performance, such as concave or curved detectors, improved temperature control, and alternative X-ray optics are also disclosed.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 23, 2017Publication date: January 25, 2018Inventors: Yiming Wang, Vincent Huang, Hanjie Zou, Eileen Guo, Ruibo Wu, Zhuotong Xian

Publication number: 20180020998Abstract: A medical-image processing apparatus and a medical-image diagnostic apparatus according to an embodiment include an acquisition unit, a generation unit, an identification unit, and a display control unit. The acquisition unit acquires a medical image containing a blood vessel collected by the medical-image diagnostic apparatus. The generation unit generates an anatomical structure model based on the medical image acquired by the acquisition unit. The identification unit identifies a position, on the medical image, of an index relating to blood flow analyzed through fluid analysis using the anatomical structure model. The display control unit displays the position of the index on the medical image, and also displays the index associated with the position of the index on the medical image.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 18, 2017Publication date: January 25, 2018Applicant: Toshiba Medical Systems CorporationInventors: Satoshi WAKAI, Takuya SAKAGUCHI, Akihito TAKAHASHI

Publication number: 20180020999Abstract: A bone analysis apparatus capable of calculating a more highly reliable fracture risk evaluation value. A bone density of the invention is positioned for a partial description of a fracture risk. That is, in the invention, it is considered that an accurate fracture risk cannot be sufficiently obtained only by one of the bone density and a structural parameter although both the bone density and the structural parameter are important to know the fracture risk. According to the invention, the fracture risk is comprehensively evaluated on the basis of the structural parameter for evaluating a structure of a trabecular bone in addition to the bone density. With this configuration, since the fracture risk can be evaluated while also taking the structure of the trabecular bone into consideration, the fracture risk can be more accurately evaluated.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 12, 2016Publication date: January 25, 2018Applicant: Shimadzu CorporationInventor: Junya YAMAMOTO

Publication number: 20180021001Abstract: A method includes moving a radiation source and a radiation detector along a scan path substantially transverse to a longitudinal axis of a patient. A beam of radiation is emitted from the radiation source. The beam of radiation is detected at the radiation detector. The detected beam is processed so as to form a first image of a first area of the patient along the scan path.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 8, 2017Publication date: January 25, 2018Applicant: Hologic, Inc.Inventor: Kevin Wilson

Publication number: 20180021002Abstract: Disclosed are methods and devices for estimating object scatter and/or internal scatter in a multi-level photon-counting x-ray detector, as well as x-ray tomographic imaging while correcting for object and internal scatter. The x-ray detector has at least two layers of detector diodes mounted in an edge-on geometry, e.g. designed for 1) estimating the object scatter contribution to the counts in a top layer of the at least two layers based on difference(s) in counts between the top layer and lower layer(s) under the assumption the object scatter has a slowly varying spatial distribution, and/or 2) estimating counts from reabsorption of photons that have Compton scattered inside the detector based on selectively blinding some detector elements from primary radiation by placing a highly attenuating beam stop on top of the detector elements, in lower layer(s) or in both top layer and lower layer(s), and measuring the counts in those detector elements.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 29, 2017Publication date: January 25, 2018Inventors: Mats DANIELSSON, David Michael HOFFMAN
