    Abstract: A method and a system are disclosed for making an article of manufacture from a blank defining an internal opening. A stack of blanks are aligned and the internal openings of the blanks in the stack of blanks are machined by a rotary cutting tool to a finished dimension. The blanks are clamped together before machining in a numerically controlled machine tool. The blanks are subsequently formed individually in a sheet metal forming operation in which the inner perimeter of the internal openings is expanded as the blank is formed.

    Abstract: A system for two stage casting of a metal alloy is disclosed that dispenses multiple feedstock metals into an arc melting crucible via a pressurized inert gas or metal vapor chamber to lower the volatilization rate of metals in an arc melting crucible at a rate proportional to the composition of the final desired alloy. The melt from the melting crucible enters a second stage cold wall crucible through a passage, where the melt cools and solidifies. A casting piston is used to slowly and progressively withdraw the solidified alloy from the cold wall crucible as it cools.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method and to a device for repairing the spout sleeve (6) of a metallurgical vessel which is fitted securely within the refractory lining (4, 5) of the vessel (1). According to the invention the sleeve is repaired by applying mortar to the casting channel (7) of the sleeve (6) with a mortar dispenser (9) that can be inserted into the casting channel (7), which upon removing the mortar dispenser from the casting channel calibrates the latter over the entire length of the channel. The mortar dispenser (9) is driven rotating coaxially to the casting channel (7) during the mortar application and, after a defined time, is removed from the casting channel (7), still rotating. The method is particularly suitable for repairing the inner sleeve of a casting ladle with a slide closure adjoining the ladle spout, maintenance of which is automatically carried out in a maintenance station of the casting facility.
