  • Publication number: 20180030334
Abstract: This invention is a subterranean (non-hydraulic) shock fracturing system and process for fracturing oil and gas bearing formations. The system delivers small amounts of precisely placed explosive charges into the formation. These charges produce large diameter deep penetrations and by coupling to the rock concussively fracture the formation in the vicinity increasing permeability in the rock or strata. Shock fracturing (SF) is far more efficient than hydraulic fracturing (HF), SF fractures radially across all strata and leaves no part of the volume addressed un-permeated. The objective of the system is to efficiently increase permeability of the formation by directionally controlled concussive shattering of the rock around the epicenter of the detonation of the explosive charge deposited in the formation.

The variably tacky proppants can be non-tacky at a first set of conditions and tacky at a second set of conditions. As such, the variably tacky proppants can be pumped into a subterranean formation and caused to enter fractures in the formation while the proppants are non-tacky. Subsequently, natural or induced conditions in the well bore can cause the proppants to become tacky. Abstract: A whole crude oil desulfurization system and process includes a combination of an adsorption zone and a hydroprocessing zone. This combined process and system reduces the requisite throughput for the hydroprocessing unit, conventionally a very costly and process both in terms of energy expenditures and catalyst depletion. By first contacting the whole crude oil feedstock with an adsorbent for the sulfur-containing compounds, the adsorption effluent having a relatively lower sulfur content can be collected and provided to refiners without further treatment. The adsorbates, including adsorbed organosulfur compounds, are solvent desorbed resulting in a stream containing high levels of organosulfur compounds and a solvent. Following recovery of the solvent, the volume of the sulfur-containing feedstream that remains to be desulfurized in the hydroprocessing zone is substantially less than the original amount of whole crude oil feedstock.

Abstract: The installation of prefabricated drains in a horizontal, generally co-planar pattern below the surface of the CCR with suction or a vacuum to withdraw water from the CCR material to lower the water level down to the level of the prefabricated drains below the CCR surface. Dewatering may be coupled with imparting vibrations to the material to further promote both additional dewatering and compaction of the CCR material in the pond. A suitably graded bottom ash, fly ash, sand or large-diameter-solid particle layer may be added on top of the horizontal drains to enhance dewatering of finer CCR material.
