Abstract: An interfacial electric field intensity of a surface is measured by covalently binding a monolayer of a voltage sensitive chromophore to the surface and irradiating it with actinic radiation while it is in contact with a liquid and measuring a first fluorescence emission spectrum. A solution of the voltage sensitive chromophore dissolved in a sample of the liquid is also irradiated with actinic radiation and a second fluorescence emission spectrum is measured. The first and second fluorescence emission spectra are compared to determine the interfacial electric field intensity.

Abstract: An arrangement for examining a sample which can be excited by means of electromagnetic radiation comprises a first dichroitic beam splitter having a first and a second prism, which are connected to one another on the base surfaces thereof, and a dichroitic layer arranged between the base surfaces of the two prisms, wherein an entry surface of the first prism encloses an angle (?) in the range from 10° to <40° with the dichroitic layer. Furthermore a light source provides the electromagnetic radiation suitable for excitation of the sample, the radiation coupled into the entry surface of the first prism, wherein a part of the radiation is reflected on the dichroitic layer in the direction of the sample, which is positioned downstream of an exit surface of the first prism. Finally, a detector detects electromagnetic radiation emitted by the sample, passed through the beam splitter and leaving the latter on a measurement surface.

A chromophore application system is used for applying a monolayer of a voltage sensitive chromophore to the surface, wherein the applied voltage sensitive chromophore is covalently bound to the surface and has a fluorescence emission spectrum which varies in accordance with a characteristic of the surface. An irradiation source irradiates the monolayer of the covalently bound voltage sensitive chromophore with actinic radiation. Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for detecting an undifferentiated pluripotent stem cell, and a cell-chip using the same. Since the cell chip-based quantitative analysis method of the present invention does not use antibodies, unlike flow cytometry or real-time PCR which has been conventionally used for the quantitative analysis of pluripotent stem cells, there is an advantage in that it is possible to conveniently and rapidly perform quantitative analysis, and since the function of cells is not affected even after analysis, it is possible to recover and use the cells used in the analysis.

Abstract: A gas sensor has a structure in which a sensor body is secured to a sensor-mounting member using an attachment screw. The gas sensor is capable of ensuring the stability of installation of a protective cover. The gas sensor includes the sensor body in which a sensor device is disposed and the cylindrical attachment screw disposed on an outer circumference of the sensor body to be rotatable. The gas sensor is secured to the sensor-mounting member which has an internal thread engaging the attachment screw and a bearing surface disposed on a front end side of the internal thread. The sensor body has a flange which protrudes outwardly on the front end side of the attachment screw. The flange held between the bearing surface of the sensor-mounting member and the attachment screw in the axial direction. A protective cover is secured to the attachment screw closer to the base end side than an external thread engaging the internal thread is.

Abstract: A gas sensor is equipped with a solid electrolyte body, a pump electrode, a sensor electrode, and a heater. In the gas sensor, a region of the whole of a front end portion of a heater base in which a heating element is disposed is broken down into three regions: an intermediate region defined between a front end and a base end of the sensor electrode, a front end region located closer to a front end side than the intermediate region is, and a base end region located closer to a base end side than the intermediate region is. A resistance value per unit area of a heating element lying in the base end region and a resistance value per unit area of the heating element lying in the front end region is selected to be higher than that of the heating element lying in the intermediate region, thereby keeping the temperature of a region around the sensor electrode at a desired level even when the temperature of gas changes.

Abstract: An organic transistor-based system for electrophysiological monitoring of cells is disclosed. The system includes a plurality of organic transistors each comprising: a floating gate electrode; a source electrode and a drain electrode; an organic semiconductor; an insulating layer; and a sensing area. A barrier mechanically separates said sensing area and a transistor area. Each organic transistor includes a control gate electrode coupled to a second portion of said floating gate electrode external to said sensing area by a capacitor. The control gate electrode is separated from said floating gate electrode by said insulating layer. The control gate electrode sets a working point of the organic transistor to which the control gate electrode belongs to by a control voltage (VGS) applied to it. In each organic transistor, an overlapping area defined by said control gate electrode formed above said floating gate is comprised between 9*10?4 cm2 and 2*10?3 cm2.
