Patent number: 9883837Abstract: Methods, devices and systems for obtaining heart rate by obtaining apical and non-apical heart rate datum using first and second heart rate monitoring devices. The apical and non-apical heart rate data are input into a heart rate verification module (HRVM) that includes a number of programming instructions for effecting the invention. An apical heart rate measure and non-apical heart rate measure are calculated in the HRVM, and an acceptable heart rate range is generated using the apical heart rate measure. Whether the non-apical heart rate measure is a reliable measure of a true heart rate is identified by determining whether the non-apical heart rate measure falls within or outside the acceptable heart rate range. A split display screen of the HRVM displays the apical heart rate measure, non-apical heart rate measure, and information identifying whether the non-apical heart rate measure falls within or outside the acceptable heart rate range.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2012Date of Patent: February 6, 2018Inventor: Jonathan M. Patent number: 9883878Abstract: Some embodiments provide a system for external manipulation of magnetic nanoparticles in vasculature using a remotely placed magnetic field-generating stator. In one embodiment, the systems and methods relate to the control of magnetic nanoparticles in a fluid medium using permanent magnet-based or electromagnetic field-generating stator sources. Such a system can be useful for increasing the diffusion of therapeutic agents in a fluid medium, such as a human circulatory system, which can result in substantial clearance of fluid obstructions, such as vascular occlusions, in a circulatory system resulting in increased blood flow. Magnetic nanoparticles are provided having a non-specialized chemical coating facilitating association with a chemical composition by a user before infusion. Systems are provided for delivering a consistent infusion mass of magnetic nanoparticles to a patient.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 2013Date of Patent: February 6, 2018Assignee: Pulse Therapeutics, Inc.Inventors: Francis M. Patent number: 9883879Abstract: An apparatus and method for effecting at least one anatomical structure of a body including at least one first arrangement structured to be at least partially inserted into the body and including an opening, at least one third arrangement configured to increase and/or decrease a size of the opening by a motion thereof in a first direction, and at least one second arrangement coupled to the third arrangement(s). When the anatomical structure(s) is/are inserted in the opening and is pressed on by the second arrangement(s), a first motion of the third arrangement(s) toward the anatomical structure(s) in the first direction is reduced and/or terminated while a second motion of the second arrangement(s) either (i) remains at least approximately the same, and/or (ii) is reduced to a lesser extent than that of the first motion.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2015Date of Patent: February 6, 2018Assignee: COVIDIEN LPInventors: Gregory Piskun, Patrick Gutelius, Oleg Shikhman

Patent number: 9883880Abstract: An articulation mechanism for a surgical instrument includes an articulation assembly, a plurality of cables, and a trigger. The cables are coupled to the articulation assembly at a proximal end thereof and extend distally therefrom. The cables are configured to engage an end effector assembly of the surgical instrument at a distal end thereof. The trigger is coupled to the articulation assembly and is selectively moveable from a shipping position to a use position. In the shipping position, the cables are substantially un-tensioned. In the use position, the cables are disposed in an initial tensioned position. In the use position, the trigger is moveable between an unlocked position and a locked position. In the unlocked position, the cables are selectively tensionable to articulate the end effector assembly. In the locked position, the tensions on the cables are maintained to lock the end effector assembly in position.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 2015Date of Patent: February 6, 2018Assignee: Covidien LPInventors: Jaroslaw T. Patent number: 9883881Abstract: A surgical system includes a surgical tool having a motor with a shaft configured to rotate, a cutting device that reciprocates in accordance with the rotation of the shaft, and a position sensor that determines a state of the motor and outputs a position signal representing the motor state. A fluid regulator provides fluid to the motor, and the motor rotates in accordance with the fluid provided. A controller generates a fluid flow command based at least in part on the position signal. The fluid regulator receives the fluid flow command and regulates fluid flow to the motor accordingly.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2012Date of Patent: February 6, 2018Assignee: NICO CORPORATIONInventor: Joseph L.
