  • Patent number: 9883889
Abstract: The invention concerns the domains of materials science and medicine and relates to a method such as can be applied to in vivo or in vitro fertilization, for instance. The problem addressed by the present invention is that of specifying a method with which the activity and controlled mobility of motile cells is improved and the absorption of materials alien to the cell is prevented as far as possible. The problem is solved by a method in which one or more motile cells are introduced into or attached to one or a plurality of magnetic particles, and subsequently the magnetic particles with the motile cells introduced into them or attached to them are moved in a directional manner by the application of an external magnetic field. The problem is further solved by the use of the method for the controlled movement of motile cells in liquid or gaseous media in the body of a mammal or human being.

  • Patent number: 9883898
Abstract: A pedicle screw may include an electrically conductive portion formed from a material having a greater electrical conductivity than that of the base material from which the screw is formed. The electrically conductive portion preferentially channels electrical energy supplied by an electrical probe to a location of the electrically conductive portion facing the nerve root. The portion thus provides a sort of electrical highway that helps to focus the electrical energy applied to the pedicle screw in a particular direction, towards the presumed location of the nerve root. As an alternative to placement of the electrically conductive portion in the pedicle screw itself, the electrically conductive portion could be placed within a tap that is used in preparing the pedicle for receipt of the pedicle screw (e.g., in forming the threaded structure in the pedicle bone into which the pedicle screw will then be placed).

Abstract: A conversion abutment that cements onto one-piece dental implants that convert the one-piece implant use to a retrievable screw retained implant use in retaining complete dentures, hybrids, partial dentures, or fixed screw retained crowns or bridges, allowing the flexibility to retain and remove these restorative prostheses. These conversion abutments can be fabricated as angled conversion abutments to be used with single or multiple implants placed at various angulations. The conversion abutment system consists of three parts: a cementable conversion abutment (straight or angled), a coping (short or extended), and an occlusal screw. The bottom part (or apical portion) of the implant conversion abutment will cement over the one-piece implant in use, while the top (or coronal portion) will allow a screw to fit through a coping into the implant conversion abutment, screwing the prostheses into place.

  • Patent number: 9883927
Abstract: An implant comprising two internal anti-rotational features. One anti-rotational feature is adapted to engage a driving tool, while the other anti-rotational feature is adapted to engage an abutment. An implant abutment system is provided with an angled abutment adapted to mate with one of the anti-rotational features. A second, straight abutment is adapted to engage with the other anti-rotational feature. An abutment is provided with resilient fingers to interface with the implant and provide tactile and audible feedback indicating when the abutment is properly seated. An abutment screw extends through the abutment and engages the implant bore distal of the stem of the abutment. The abutment screw limits axial movement of the abutment relative to the implant. A driving tool comprising one of at least retention structure and visual alignment indicia is provided to facilitate screwing the implant into a patient's bone.

Abstract: A dental articulator apparatus and method of forming dental casts utilizing a dental articulator having pivotally connected upper and lower arms that each have a ball socket which receives a ball at the outer end of a respective model anchor, the opposed end of which is cast into a dental model. The model anchor ball is adjustably secured in the ball socket of the articulator arms by a set screw coupled with a rotatable magnetic extension rod that are installed, removed, advanced, and retracted as a unit and allow relative rotation between the set screw and the extension rod to facilitate fitting and positioning the ball in the socket when the set screw is loosened, and eliminate manually installing and positioning separate small shims and plungers that can be accidentally dropped and lost.

  • Patent number: 9883931
Abstract: The present invention relates to a device and a method for the application of composites in tooth cavities. The device consists of a spray gun with integrated lighting for light-polymerizable composites, a measuring unit and a control unit. The composites are applied under controlled, precisely dosed exposure to polymerization light. According to the invention, the composite initially runs onto the walls of the cavity or onto previously introduced filling material and then, as a result of the light exposure, is transformed into the gel state. Thus, a large part of the polymerization shrinkage of the composite occurs while the composite is still plastically deformable so that any formation of gaps is compensated by the composite continuing to flow. It is only at this point in time that a sufficiently high dosage of light is applied for complete curing to occur.

Abstract: The invention discloses an implant. The implant may include a first flap and a second flap. The first flap may further include a first portion, a second portion and a transition region. The first portion may be configured to be attached proximate a sacrum. The second portion may be configured to be attached to an anterior vaginal wall. The transition region lies between the first portion and the second portion. The second flap may be fabricated such that a portion of the second flap is configured to be attached to a posterior vaginal wall. The implant may be configured such that a value corresponding to a biomechanical parameter defining a biomechanical attribute of the portion of the first flap attaching to the anterior wall is different from a value of the biomechanical parameter defining the biomechanical attribute of the portion of the second flap attaching to the posterior wall.
