Patent number: 9938786Abstract: An indexing tool is incorporated into a tubular string. The indexing tool is intended to function as a variable travel stop so that on initial landing other tools associated with the string will not extend to an operating position for tools that would otherwise operate on contact with relative movement. Patent number: 9938789Abstract: A ball is retained behind a circular array of collet fingers to be pushed out through the collets with a spring biased piston that is initially locked when run in the hole. The lock mechanism is a link that holds a potential force in the main spring. One end of the link is held by an acceleration or deceleration responsive retainer. The retainer has a conforming stop surface to a stop surface on the link. Sudden relative movement caused by acceleration of the housing allows the retainer that is flanked by opposed springs to move away from the stop surface or surfaces on the link. The link is an array of spaced fingers that can radially flex. The radial flexing combines with the power of the main spring to propel the piston against the ball for a release of the ball. A fracturing operation then ensues.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 2015Date of Patent: April 10, 2018Assignee: Baker Hughes, a GE company, LLCInventors: Zachary S. Silva, William B. Handy

Patent number: 9938796Abstract: The sealing device (1) includes an elongated body (5) adapted to be introduced into a tube-shaped channel (2) and including a sealing fluid placement section (6) arranged between a first and a second annular flow barrier (7, 8). The elongated body further includes a sealing fluid activation section (11) arranged between the second annular flow barrier (8) and a third annular flow barrier (12) and including a sealing fluid activation device (13) adapted to at least initiate or accelerate curing of the sealing fluid (17). In operation, the elongated body may be displaced along the tube-shaped channel until the sealing fluid activation section is placed at a position where sealing fluid has been ejected by the sealing fluid placement section, and the sealing fluid activation device may be activated. Thereby, sealing fluid may be cured at selected locations along the tube-shaped channel after ejection of sealing fluid.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2013Date of Patent: April 10, 2018Assignee: MAERSK OLIE OG GAS A/SInventors: Jens Henrik Hansen, Anne Ladegaard Skov

Patent number: 9938797Abstract: An assembly includes a fastener deployable in a wellbore and actuated by a shape-memory alloy. The shape-memory alloy releaseably interlocks multiple components deployed in the wellbore. The physical shape of the shape-memory alloy can be selectively changed between a first shape and a second shape.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2014Date of Patent: April 10, 2018Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventor: Lorn Scott MacDonald

Patent number: 9938798Abstract: A protective sleeve for a ball activated device, the ball activated device comprising a seat sleeve axially movable between an initial state in which seat defining members are configured to form a fluid tight seal with a ball and a final state in which the seat defining members are allowed to enter into a seat receiving recess such that the ball is permitted to pass. In the initial state, the protective sleeve extends axially from the seat sleeve over the seat receiving recess. The protective sleeve can be connected in the extension of the seat sleeve through a rotation lock, and ensures that particles and scaling do not build up in the seat receiving recess. The invention prevents that particles are collected behind the seat defining members and prevent these and other movable parts from moving. The protective sleeve is thus particularly suitable for applications such as cementing or fracturing.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 2014Date of Patent: April 10, 2018Assignee: NOV COMPLETION TOOLS ASInventors: Kristoffer Brække, Roger Antonsen

Patent number: 9938799Abstract: A method includes designing a subsea equipment assembly having an insulation covering an outer surface of at least one equipment unit and a flow path formed through the at least one equipment unit. The designing includes modeling a temperature profile of the subsea equipment assembly having a fluid within the flow path, identifying at least one hot zone along an interface between the insulation and the outer surface, where the at least one hot zone is exposed to temperatures above a degradation temperature of the insulation, and designing at least one cold zone along the interface to border the at least one hot zone, the at least one cold zone exposed to maximum temperatures below the degradation temperature of the insulation.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 2015Date of Patent: April 10, 2018Assignee: FMC Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Elizabeth Whitsitt, Carlos Ardenis Silva-Hernandez, Matthew R. Patent number: 9938800Abstract: Methods and systems for determining acidizing fluid injection rates for stimulation of a subterranean formation arc provided. In one embodiment, methods comprise: selecting a first injection rate for injecting an acidizing fluid into a subterranean formation; calculating a first objective function based on the first injection rate; selecting a second injection rate for injecting the acidizing fluid into the subterranean formation; calculating a second objective function based on the second injection rate; comparing the second objective function with the first objective function to determine whether the second objective function is indicative of more effective stimulation, less effective stimulation, or the same stimulation as the first objective function; and selecting a design rate for injecting the acidizing fluid into the subterranean formation.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2015Date of Patent: April 10, 2018Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Chaitanya Mallikarjun Karale, Prabhat Kumar Srivastava, Ankit Bhatnagar

Patent number: 9938801Abstract: A shunt tube entry device comprises one or more inlet ports, a shroud disposed at least partially about a wellbore tubular, and a shunt tube in fluid communication with the chamber. The shroud defines a chamber between the shroud and the wellbore tubular, and the chamber is in fluid communication with the one or more entry ports.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2012Date of Patent: April 10, 2018Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Brandon Thomas Least, Stephen Michael Greci, Jean Marc Lopez, Jan Veit, Luke William Holderman, Maxime Coffin, Andrew Penno

Patent number: 9938802Abstract: An apparatus for installation in a borehole comprises a well component and a sleeve. The well component has a through-bore and is permeable to the borehole. For example, the well component can be a well screen having a perforated basepipe with a filter disposed thereabout or can be a liner defining a plurality of openings therein. The sleeve is disposed external to the well component. The sleeve is at least temporarily impermeable to obstruct the well component during run in the borehole and becomes permeable in response to an agent, such as a hydrochloric acid, a hydrofluoric acid, an acid stimulation, a wellbore fluid, or a drilling fluid, for example.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 2016Date of Patent: April 10, 2018Assignee: Weatherford Technology Holdings, LLCInventors: John S. Patent number: 9938803Abstract: A method for controlling the liquid load size of a plunger lift well during the shut in time of the well to facilitate a controlled plunger rise. Intra-cycle control allows dynamic adjustments within a cycle to keep the plunger running and not stalling out or rising too fast. The method includes the steps of shutting in the well to build up pressure within the well, adjusting a size of a liquid slug within the tubing while the well is shut in, opening a valve to relieve pressure within the well and raise the plunger within the tubing, pushing the liquid slug out of the well with the plunger, and closing the valve wherein the plunger falls within the tubing. The intra-cycle adjustments include reducing the size of the liquid slug for preventing fluid loading and increasing the size of the liquid slug for controlling a rise rate of the plunger.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2016Date of Patent: April 10, 2018Inventor: James F.
