Abstract: Disclosed is an implantable artificial intervertebral disc joint replacement device for implantation between adjacent vertebral bodies. The device allows selective positioning of a disc implant element and comprises translatable surfaces, a mechanism for translation, a means for bone attachment, and an integrated disc implant. The device can be used in the lumbar, thoracic, and cervical regions of the spine in single or multi-level configurations. When implanted in a patient, the device includes an upper (cranial) component and a lower (caudal) component attached to the vertebral body above and below the replaced intervertebral disc respectively, with the joint implant integrated into the translatable surfaces. Following implantation, precise positioning of the joint implant within the intervertebral space with respect to the spinal axis is then adjusted based upon the particular anatomical and functional needs of the individual patient to satisfy spinal range of motion and stability requirements.

Abstract: An intervertebral insert member and an instrument for positioning the insert in a space between vertebral bodies in vivo. The insert member is advanced by the instrument into a prepared site located between adjacent vertebral bodies. Upon reaching the appropriate insertion point, the sleeve is retracted and a pivotal motion is imparted to the insert. The insert member is pivotally attached to the distal end of the delivery instrument such that it can be articulated about a pivot point that is located on the insert member until it is properly positioned. The positioning instrument is then released from the insert member and removed from the space between the vertebral bodies. Abstract: A transport unit includes: a transporting device that turns a pad 90 degrees while the pad rotates from a receiving position to a transfer position; and first and second receiving rollers that sandwich a sheet and an absorbent body between a holding surface and the respective receiving rollers at the transfer position. The holding surface includes first and second sloped surfaces that are aligned along a pad rotating shaft extends at the transfer position. The first and second receiving rollers have outer diameters decreasing from the proximal ends to the distal ends and are disposed such that distal ends are positioned on the sides of first and second ends of the holding surface, respectively. The first and second receiving rollers are disposed so as to sandwich the sheet and the absorbent body between the first and second sloped surfaces and the first and second receiving rollers, respectively.

Abstract: A protective device for insertion into the crevice adjacent to the anus, and cover adjacent portions of the derriere. The protective device cover includes a solid sheet of material with an adhesive on one side which can be used to apply the cover directly onto the portion directly around and adjacent to the anus after it has been inserted into the crevice. The cover also includes slits or holes through which evacuated material may pass through. The cover may also be made from a “plastic wrap” type material that adheres to human skin when pressure is applied. In an alternate embodiment, a wiping pad is provided between two layers of the cover, which traverses the hole opening when a string is pulled to effect at least partial cleaning in the anus area. This almost eliminates the need for toilet paper, keeps the body clean, and avoids excessive contamination.
