Abstract: A food skewer that provides a user with the experience of eating meat/food stuff off a bone that is not normally eaten off of a bone, includes a skewing piece and an end cap. The skewing piece is used to pierce and support the desired meat/food stuff, and also provides a portion for the user to grasp in order to maneuver the meat/food stuff. Meanwhile, the end cap secures the meat/food stuff to the skewing piece, protects the user from incurring injury from the skewing piece, and provides an additional portion for the user to grasp in order to maneuver the meat/food stuff. The skewing piece and the end cap may resemble one or more animal bones, such as a humerus bone, a rib bone, or a radius and ulna bone.

Abstract: Once it is determined in Step S2 that a corner has been detected, a control unit causes a body to perform a reciprocating motion and initiate corner cleaning in Step S3. Then, once it is determined in Step S4 that a rubbish detection sensor detects no rubbish, the corner cleaning is terminated in Step S6. Once it is determined in Step S4 that the rubbish detection sensor detects rubbish, the corner cleaning continues to be executed by the body being caused to perform the reciprocating motion in Step S5. In other words, an autonomous travel-type cleaner is realized that can remove a large amount of the rubbish accumulating at the corner by causing the body to perform the reciprocating motion.

Abstract: An optical coherence tomography (OCT) system combining multiple wavelengths is generally described. In an example, the OCT system includes a first light source configured to emit a first beam having a first wavelength. The OCT system further includes a second light source configured to emit a second beam having a second wavelength. The OCT system further includes an interferometer. The first beam and the second beam are configured to be directed into the interferometer. The interferometer includes a reference path and an interferometer sample path. The OCT system further includes a first beam splitter configured to divide, from an output of the interferometer sample path the first beam into a first sample path, and the second beam into a second sample path. The OCT system further includes a second beam splitter configured to combine the first beam and the second beam into a common axis.

Abstract: A method for classifying a cataract of an eye to determine parameters for pre-setting phaco-treatment instruments. OCT-based measurements are realized. The OCT-based scans are analysed using imaging technology and the local distribution of the cataract is determined. The cataract is classified on the basis of comparison values and the local distribution and classification of the cataract are used to identify parameters for pre-setting phaco-treatment instruments. Even though the proposed method for classifying the cataract of an eye is provided for determining parameters for pre-setting phaco-treatment instruments, it should equally also be used for determining parameters for pre-setting treatment instruments based on fs-lasers.

Abstract: A method for determining the topography of the cornea of an eye on the basis of an optical, contactless data capture. In the method for determining the topography of the cornea of an eye, which is based on a deflectometric method, the deflectometric measurements are carried out with the aid of a keratometric method by virtue of additional OCT-based scans being made at the keratometric measurement points, wherein the two measurement systems are registered to one another and both the keratometric and the OCT-based measurement values are recorded and used for mutual calibration to determine and output the topographic data. The proposed method serves to determine the topography of the cornea of an eye. It is helpful to ascertain the topography in order to be able to draw conclusions about possible pathological changes. Moreover, the exact measurement of the corneal topography is of great importance for correcting refractive errors.

Abstract: In a corneal measurement system, an optical element focuses an excitation light to an area of corneal tissue at a selected depth. In response, a fluorescing agent applied to the cornea generates a fluorescence emission. An aperture of a pinhole structure selectively transmits the fluorescence emission from the area of corneal tissue at the selected depth. A detector captures the selected fluorescence emission transmitted by the aperture and communicates information relating to a measurement of the selected fluorescence emission captured by the detector. A controller receives the information from the detector and determines a measurement of the fluorescing agent in the area of corneal tissue at the selected depth. The system may include a scan mechanism that causes the optical element to scan the cornea at a plurality of depths, and the controller may determine a measurement of the fluorescing agent in the cornea as a function of depth.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to an indirect ophthalmoscopic system for imaging of the ocular fundus including a headband configured to hold a digital imaging device and a plus eyepiece lens in front of an eye of the examiner, with the plus eyepiece lens positioned in between the digital imaging device and the examiner's eye, such that the examiner is focused upon the display of the digital imaging device. The aperture of the digital imaging device receives light reflected from the ocular fundus of the patient's eye, emanating from the patient's pupil. The examiner examines the patient and composes the image of the ocular fundus directly in the display screen. In this way, what the examiner sees is captured by the digital imaging device. Stereoscopic imagery is obtained by optical means that create side-by-side virtual images of the aperture of the digital imaging device within the pupil of the eye.

Abstract: Techniques for use with an implantable medical device (IMD) reduce how often a first receiver of the IMD wakes up a second receiver thereof to reduce power consumption. A received message and/or a channel over which messages can be received is/are examined, and a value is adjusted based on results thereof. After being adjusted, the value is compared to a first threshold if the IMD is in a normal state, or compared to a second threshold if the IMD is in a noise state. If in the normal state, there is a determination whether to stay in the normal state or switch to the noise state. If in the noise state, there is a determination whether to stay in the noise state or switch to the normal state. At least the second receiver is temporarily put to sleep, if the IMD is maintained in or switched to the noise state.

Abstract: Currently most cancers, including breast cancers, are removed without any intraoperative margin control. Post-operative methods inspect 1-2% of the surgical margin and are prone to sampling errors. The present invention relates to an optical imaging system that will enable evaluation of the surgical margin in vivo and in real-time. The invention provides for simultaneous fluorescence and fluorescence polarization imaging. The contrast of the acquired images will be enhanced using fluorescent agents approved for diagnostic use in patients. As the staining pattern of fluorescence images is similar to that of histology, and the values of fluorescence polarization are significantly higher in cancerous as compared to normal cells, the invention provides for further improvements in diagnostic methods. The systems and methods can be applied to the intra-operative delineation of cancerous tissue.
